The Sailor Moon Pocky Box : Reviews

Layout & Design

Is the layout intuitive and easy to navigate? Is it compatible across all browsers and resolution? Is it aesthetically pleasing?

Water Bubbles Blue was coded by someone who knows how to use CSS, and it's definitely not ugly. This site has very soothing colours, which makes it superficially rather attractive. However, upon closer examination, the layout very quickly reveals its inadequacies.

The main problem with this layout is the illegibility. Besides the fact that the webmaster chose to use white on very pale light blue, rendering the title impossible to read based solely on lack of colour contrast, the title of the site -- "Water Bubble Blues" has been written in a "cursive" font that, even were it a colour one could read against that blue, would still be hard to discern.

Beneath the title is something written in a tiny font that is so small and written in white that I actually don't know what it says. In the lower right hand corner of the header image are four icons that are meant to forward the viewer to relevant links like email, etc. While it's nice to have these icons, again they are white against pastel blue, such that I can't actually see them at all.

The layout has no particular theme to it. It's all round, and has a nice shape to it, and I like the gradiented colours, but what is this supposed to represent for us? Why is there a random pink "Mizu Awa" circle in the upper left and why is there that rather ugly white splotching on it? What's with the random winding character and butterflies in the right of the header image. SailorMoon fansites are lucky in that we have a myriad of beautiful images we can use to incorporate into a layout -- what is this layout supposed to convey to me other than the attractive pink and green that was chosen for it?

Also, the site incorporates two B/W manga images in the header: one of Ami and one of Jedite (I think). The images are hatched, indicating a poor scan, and it interrupts the layout to have them in highly contrasted black and white next to the overly-washed pastel of the rest of the layout. All in all, they are dissonant.

The navigation links are on the left of the site, which is nice, but again we have a dark grey/light grey contrast issue in which, while more legible than the title, could still put visually challenged people at a disadvantage.

Also dissonant are the section titles for each of the navigation boes. The font chosen is seriffed for reasons completely unknown -- it looks drab and dull compared to the rest of the site, which uses clean, san-serifed fonts.

The rest of the content is an aqua green against pastel blue. Again, better than white on pastel blue but still a poor choice, making reading this site unnecessarily difficult.

Browsing over to the past layouts section, I will give this site credit in at least having improved over past layouts. Still, that really isn't saying much -- this layout has too many bad qualities.

Written Content

Is there lots of written information? Are all profiles, back story, and other textual content accurate? Does the site offer fanfiction or other miscellaneous written content?

Ok I like the setup of this layout. It is pleaing to the eye but the colors on the text versus the background are a bit too harsh. The text is too faint and leaves it hard for me to read, so if this written review is a bit off, you know why.

Profile, nothing new. Typical dollbox stats.

I expected a bit more professionalism in the Anime v. Manga section. The clothing section seems more like an opinion as opposed to actual information. Yes, of course Ami had more clothing options in the manga. It is easier to draw one outfit per volume as opposed to a new one every episodes like the animation. Lemme thing here, 200 compared to 18 tankoubon is a bit of a comparison that is a little rough to even draw. You expect Ami to have over 180 different outfits? Isn't that being a bit eccentric? I mean sure, she is rich. The Juuban district in general is a rich district and all the girls live there. That doesn't mean that the animators wanted to draw that many different outfits for the girls. Now be reasonable here.

The rest of these comparisons really read like nothing more than a bitch about how horrible the animation was compared to the manga. I highly suggest changing this section up and making it a bit better to read than your own personal rantfest as you are going to annoy more than a couple of visitors with your opinion that are stated as facts. Maybe move this to a personal opinion section?

"Injustice to Ami" sounds like like the last section. It is more about how she was shit shafted. Ok, I understand that you feel a great and horrible injustice was done to your beloved weakling (you all know that Ami is my LEAST favorite character right?), but please, combine these two sections because they read the same and if the rest of the site reads like this, I am closing my browser, panning your site, and leaving it in the newly created "annoying as shit" column.

More opinions riddle the "Original Mercury" section. Also I would like to quote this phrase "Can you see the MercuryÕs symbol pinned on the ribbons of the original SailorMercury?" Well I might be able to if the pictures maybe had a link to a bigger version but as it stands they are tiny and almost impossible to see on the picture you have provided for us.

Another quote "In the original fuku, SailorMercury wore nice low-heeled shoes, which I have no idea what it is called since I am not concerned with shoes. " Yet you specifically chose to have a section on "Shoes" in this section. Anybody else confused?

There is finally a disclaimer when you get to the "Past Love" section. Thank you for this. It allows me to move on other than reading this dribble.

However I must correct something here:

"First love was in the past with Zoisite and the second was with Urawa."

Ami never had a relationship with Zoisite. It was a story that was never written. It is a fanbased assumption that they WERE lovers but they officially never were. Please stop spreading the rumor. It is annoying.

The Powers section almost seems ripped off from somewhere. I have seen this setup so many times now that it isn't even funny, but even the wording is familiar.

The "Why Ami" section has my angry. She states this:

"You must be wondering why must it be Ami and not Michiru or any other Senshi? The reason is because I like Ami and adore her very much. She is a shy, quiet and an intelligent girl."

Yet earlier she bitched because they potrayed Ami as shy! Get your story straight before you post it for the world to read!

I am done with this site. It angers me to no end because of its inconsistency.

Visual Content

What kind of visual content is offered? Is it efficiently organized and intuitively accessible? Are all visual media offered legally?

Since I'm doing multimedia, the very first thing I'm going to look at is, of course, the gallery! I really, really do not like the thumbnails here. They're so tiny, I can't see what the picture will be before I open it. If you're going to make them impossible to see, why even bother having thumbnails? Nothing too exciting here... just the same old pictures you see in other galleries, only with worse quality. I swear that in one of the manga Sailor Mercury pictures, it looks like she has a moustache. Yes, the quality is that bad. The same thing goes for the animated gifs, which are in another section. They are VERY tiny, and the quality isn't so great on the larger ones.

Moving on to the coloring pages, it appears they're ALL from moonfeathers.com. What is it with sites these days just snatching things off of other sites? Be original!! Why even make a website if you're just going to have the same things as other websites? I mean, seriously, what is the point??

Next issue... there are seventeen avatars. Only nine of them are Sailor Moon-related. Only three of them feature Ami. I'm sorry, wasn't this supposed to be a fan site about Ami? Something is amiss here.

Overall, I'm pretty disappointed in the multimedia section :(
