The Sailor Moon Pocky Box : Reviews

Layout & Design

Is the layout intuitive and easy to navigate? Is it compatible across all browsers and resolution? Is it aesthetically pleasing?

Ptilol

The site opens up with a spash page that has an image of Ami and Zoisite. It also lists the optimal viewing requirements and has the affiliates and webring links.

Alright, let's see what we're in for.

Ack! Yellow... lots of yellow. My art classes have taught me that blue and yellow compliment eachother because they are opposites on the color wheel. However, there's just not enough blue to get that effect. The shades of yellow go well together but still....

Anyway, I'm going off on a tangent. Back to the task at hand. The main image is a colored manga-style of Sailor Mercury and Zoisite. The content viewing area is all in the center of the page and scrolls down. The navigation, while easy to find and use, seems out of place in it's location at the top of the page.

When hovering over the sections, a drop down menu decends to lead to the sub sections. Kind of a neat idea. It's not centered over the rest of the page which makes it look odd. There's also a big empty space on the right side of the navigation bar.

In general the whole layout is just ok. Nothing special about it. Webperson, you get 1/2 a Kudo's bar.

Written Content

Is there lots of written information? Are all profiles, back story, and other textual content accurate? Does the site offer fanfiction or other miscellaneous written content?

Tellu

The Written section is probably the worst for me to do, because I'm a terrible grammar Nazi. The first thing I notice about this site is that the author used "farther" when she should have used "further." Tsk, tsk. Ok, that one little flaw aside, the grammar and writing seem to be pretty good here.

Moving on to the Fan Fiction section... there's nothing here. The updates say that stories have been added, but there are no stories here! None at all! Maybe this is some kind of flaw in the system, but it's a serious flaw that needs to be fixed ASAP.

Information! My favorite! And wow, there's a lot of it!!! This person clearly spent a lot of time on this... but she also spent a lot of time looking it up and pasting it onto her own website. All of the astrological information and numerological information have been copied and pasted (with credit, of course), along with other sections of the site. Sure, the author pointed out how that applied to the characters, but... why duplicate something from another site? Be original! A lot of the infomation is also purely speculation... such as heights and birth years. I don't like it when people speculate about things like that (because there is no proof), but I do like it that the author is very clear in stating that it is speculation.

Next, the "Romance" section. This section really baffles me... first of all, you'll find information regarding the compatibility of Virgo (Ami's sign) with Gemini (which the webmistress thinks might be Zoisite's sign). Then, information about the compatibility of their birth years (based on speculation). Ok, that could be pretty normal. But the other stuff in this section is... totally random. Dating ideas?! The meanings of flowers?! How to say "I love you" in other languages?! Quotations about love?! I find that stuff to be pretty useless on a shrine about Zoisite and Ami.

Overall, this site is written well, and has a lot of content. Most of it is directly related to the characters, but at times, it felt like the webmaster was scraping the bottom of the barrel for ideas. I do like this site a lot, though! :)

Visual Content

What kind of visual content is offered? Is it efficiently organized and intuitively accessible? Are all visual media offered legally?

When I first reviewed this site, I was a bit harsh on it. For the main reason of not being able to view it. However, with that being the only down fall for this site, I've taken the chance to rereview the media section, via another computer and browser.

The media on this site, is honestly, quite good. I'm very impressed with the information listed for Ami and Zocsite. Not just basic information on the characters, but also an astralogical sign, mythlogy, chinese astralogy, planet and so on. This site is FILLED with great information. I especially the love the Romance section. It's laid out as if Ami and Zoisite were really talking.

Other sections that I also found rather good, were the galleries of both characters and the music files, as well as the clips. Each section is laid out rather well, with the only problem that I could find being a broken link on one item. I was also impressed with the varity of the games section. Very well done and laid out.

My only disappointment was the fanfiction section. There was nothing up, nicely laid out there, very well organized, which will make finding any fan fictions easy to find. However as I said, there were no fan fictions listed. And my belief as far as that goes, is if you don't have anything for that section, than it shouldn't be up yet. But each owner has to make the decision for themselves.

Aside from the fact that this site can not be viewed by other browsers, except the one listed, I find the media very well done and laid out. Though, as viewer, I must recommend that this site become more user and browser friendly. It's a true shame that not many people who don''t have the IE5+ browser, can not enjoy this site as it should be.

In closing, the media section was very well done and I am glad I gave it the second chance it deserved.
