Layout & Design

Is the layout intuitive and easy to navigate? Is it compatible across all browsers and resolution? Is it aesthetically pleasing?

Viluy

Ok so I got layout duty this week and guess what? I got this site! Ok so...layout time.

Ok first off, I like where the navigation bar sits. I seem to like those sitting across the top. The layout itself looks ok, I'm not to crazy about that header. Maybe it's just me, but that pink on black like that looks kind of....odd.

Anyways...so the main layout is ok. Nothing to get all excited about. I say main layout cause this person has her other pages opening up with new layouts. All of which look worse than the main layout of the page.

Here's the deal layouts like these are set up for a reason. Opening new pages up with different backgrounds, totally takes away from the site. One page has practically an all pink theme going on and lines that run side to side. That thing gives me a headach and makes my eyes do that spinning thing. Layouts shouldn't make you dizzy or give you headachs.

The next layout has a softer color of pink, but still....not to crazy about it. It just looks so...blah to me. Completely doesn't do the main layout any justice, it really just clashes.

The next layout....wait is that even PINK? Nope it sure isn't! Ok so we got pink going on all over the other layouts, but this has a purple color happening and it's off to the side.

Ok sooo...I think I am goin to stop here. Fact is, you really got to like pink, cause just as the title says, "Pink Heart Kiss", the layouts have a LOT of pink in them. I don't think the main layout is anything to really jump up and down on. However the other page layouts just make that first one look worse than it already is. I think it's possible to make pink look really nice in a layout, but this...ugh.

Written Content

Is there lots of written information? Are all profiles, back story, and other textual content accurate? Does the site offer fanfiction or other miscellaneous written content?

Tellu

Well, at first glace, I don't see too many grammatical errors or typos, so that's good! I'm going to check out the "Data File" for all the info.

The first thing I noticed here is that there is a missing link for an info section on the "Asteroid Senshi." People should realize that "Asteroid Senshi" is a fan-created term, and that group of senshi should be called the "Sailor Quartetto" or even "Sailor Quartet."

The first section is basic stats. I'm not sure why this person decided that one of ChibiUsa's weaknesses is "brainwashing," but it's incorrect. Next, there is no such thing as "Sailor Starchibimoon." I have no idea why people think the senshi's final transformation in the manga is called their "star" form, but it's not. It is NEVER called that in the manga, anime, or any other official source. Finally, several of ChibiMoon's attacks have been left off.

The "Anatomy of a Rabbit" section is just weird. I think this person was going for an outfit deconstruction that seems to have gone all wrong. First of all, it says "Please notice the similarities to a rabbit." I'm not exactly sure how her transformation brooch and fuku are similar to a rabbit, but whatever.

The "Best Friends" section is just same-old, same-old, so I'll move on to the name section. I really, really hate it when people copy-and-paste info from those baby name sites, or from kabalarians.com for their Sailor Moon websites. In fact, it drives me crazy. They're always only half-right, and had absolutely nothing to do with the naming of the character. For instance, Usagi does not have "patience to pay attention to detail for a while." Sorry, but no. That just doesn't describer her correctly. This webmaster's analysis of the name "Black Lady" is just bizarre. I'm not sure what the Japanese word for black, "kuro," has to do with anything, but this person felt that it should be included. This person also says that "Serenity" is dropped in the "Black Lady" name because it is a link to the Moon family... but then later contradicts herself and says that "Lady" is kept in the name because of the link!! Which is it? The words, "you're pulling this out of your ass" come to mind.

In the "Romance" section, this person is using the name "Elios," when "Helios" is actually the right name. That's the only thing I saw there, so I'll just move on to the "Dark Side of the Moon" section, which opens into a new page. The first thing I noticed here is that it refers to Prince Demand as "Prince Diamaund" which is totally insane. I have never heard anyone use that bizarre name. Anyway, this section is pretty much the same stuff you can read anywhere. Let's refer again to the phrase, "you're pulling this out of your ass" to talk about much of the info about Black Lady. I'm not saying it's totally false, but it seems like this person is overanalyzing WAY too much. I'm not sure why his person wrote a whole section about Black Lady calling herself the "Queen of Darkness," and why she decided that Black Lady was the queen of the whole planet of Nemesis. Also, the statement, "Princesses usually become queens when they grow up" sounds a little crazy.

Ok, let's go to the "Symbolism" section. Seriously, seriously overanalyzing things here. I'm not sure how this person decided that being a woman was somehow majorly symbolic. "The Woman represents mother, the earth, and the moon. She is protective, nurturing, passive, and loving" - yea, that describes Black Lady exactly. *rolling my eyes* And pillars? PILLARS? What do pillars have to do with anything? Might as well analyze the significance of pink hair or high-heeled shoes or something. Don't just make up random things.

Mythology. I like mythology, but I'd like to see this section dedicated more to the characters close to ChibiMoon. It starts well... talking about Selene, Helios, and the Amazons. Then things get weird. How is Artemis connected to ChibiMoon? Lethe and Mnemosyne? Seirens? They're really not. And why isn't Diana included here, who is close to ChibiMoon, and who has mythological connections? Stick to the subject matter more... this is supposed to be a ChibiUsa shrine, right?

The "Moonlight Notes" section is opinion, so I won't check that out so much.

I think that the information section on this site has promise, but the author has really overanalyzed things too much without providing anything truly valuable. There's a handful of incorrect information (mostly involving names), but not too much, which is nice to see. This person really just needs to focus more on ChibiUsa without going overboard on the analysis.

Visual Content

What kind of visual content is offered? Is it efficiently organized and intuitively accessible? Are all visual media offered legally?

Tellu

Muahaha, you're in for a double dose of Tellu this week! Ha, you thought you could escape, didn't you?

So, I'm also reviewing the media this week. So naturally, I'm going to head straight for the Image Gallery! The manga pictures of ChibiUsa are organized by manga Volume, which is fantastic! It may be a bit better to organize them by Act number, however, because the Volume numbers have changed since the reprint editions were released. Well, it clearly shows the old edition, so I have no complaints... just making a suggestion! :)

Hmmm... I don't like the thumbnails very much. They're shaped like hearts, which is cute, but I can't really tell what's going on in the picture. Well, there is a pretty decent amount of scans here, and they're not bad quality, either! I also like the fact that Doujinshi images have been included, which are often very hard to find.

Moving on to the "Candy & Kisses" section, there's a lot of unique stuff here. The games are pretty simple; the kind you find on a lot of different sites, so I wasn't too terribly impressed. BUT at least there's something there! I also like that this webmaster has included bookmarks, notepaper, and fans - that's very original. The downloads section was interesting, but I'd like to see more here. Then again, maybe I'm just greedy ;)
