Layout & Design

Is the layout intuitive and easy to navigate? Is it compatible across all browsers and resolution? Is it aesthetically pleasing?

Tellu

This website has always had beautiful layouts, and the current one is certainly no exception. It has a simple style that is easily navigated. I also really like the way the different skins are all part of a set. So often, I see sites with wildly different skins available. There's nothing wrong with that, but it's interesting and unique to see a site with skins that match.

My only complaint about this site (if you can even call it a complaint) is the fact that the webmistress uses strange little symbols as buttons in each section. These are a bit too ornate, and seem to draw attention away from the actual text. I would opt for a simpler button here.

Otherwise, keep up the good work with the lovely layouts!

Written Content

Is there lots of written information? Are all profiles, back story, and other textual content accurate? Does the site offer fanfiction or other miscellaneous written content?

Eudial

Looks like we got another manga site on our table. I am a bit twitchy at the moment because of Eudial anger management issues, so lets just cut right to the chase.

As I was clicking through the info section, my eyebrow was twitching at the fact that only the villians are completed in the character section. I just think that if you have at least a good portion of the page done, just put anything up until you reach that point. The Dark Kingdom section is pretty accurate. Its short and to the point, which is good. Too little information can be bad, however, too much is also just as bad. As I've mentioned before, a fansite should support a franchise. And a way to do that is to not spoil everyone with the conclusions and too much information.

Flipping through Black Moon arc, I noticed Chiral and Achiral. I do not recall these characters actually, but I am vague on the R season a bit, so I will give it to this person as I could just be forgetting. Regrettably, the first thing I thought was "Organic Chemistry words!!! NOOOOO." As for the Death Busters, there's no info on them! For shame!!! The witches ARE reviewing your site after all. *laugh*

Reading this section, I realize that my manga knowledge is short. However, alot of it is pretty accurate from what I recall. All and all, i do like the way this person set up their info. Nice.

Visual Content

What kind of visual content is offered? Is it efficiently organized and intuitively accessible? Are all visual media offered legally?

Mimette

You know, layout isn't my section, but I gotta admit, this layout is clean, however I find the skins less than impressive. Lemme explain why... The background color changes and the colors change, that is all fine but the image that changes isn't anything that is all that creative. It is literally just a crop of the princess dress images. That doesn't show much for originality in my opinion. However we all know that I am hard to impress when it comes to layout.

Onto media, which is my real section for this review. So here it comes.

I gotta admit that the statement on the "multimedia" page is amusing. It reads "Remember no direct linking or any other actions that might merit bad karma please." Riiiight. Hate to break it to you but officially, you can only have "karma" if you are Hindu. Yes the theory of karma is nice but unless you ARE Hindu, you technically don't have karma. That is my religious lesson for the day.

The artbook gallery reminds me WAY too much of mangastyle, so I am moving on to the next one.

Currently in the "B&W" gallery they are only three seasons of villains... Moving on again.

Dear god, there is a java gallery featuring all those effects that I hate seeing on sites and that are overused. The fact that this site even offers them for the idiots out there that might use them makes me want to cut off my arms and bleach my eyes....

So THIS is where everybody gets the nifty AIM icons from! I had wondered on that. I gotta admit I am impressed with the shear amount of of them. They are all rather basic, which is fine considering aim icons are tiny to begin with. This is definitely a good selling point for this site.

Avatars are icons are avatars. That section was merely blah. Some where good, some were mediocre, some warranted a bleaching. Either way, moving on.

You know, maybe when I first discovered photoshop brushes I would have found the brush section fun, however having used photoshop for a long time now, I find that such brushes are a waste of time and space. They tend to not work very well and when they do work, you never find a use for them unless it is in overly done graphics. I am sure that there is a niche for them out there somewhere, but it isn't winning any points with this media reviewer.

Ok, this one gets my goat. In the clips section it reads "Exclusive to Neo Nobility, you can now download the last anime episode of Sailormoon: Episode 200 Usagi no Ai! Gekkou Ginga wo Terasu (Usagi's Love! The Moonlight Illuminates the Galaxy)."

I call bullshit on that statement simply because there ARE other sites that offer that episode as well as the rest of the Stars season, and in MUCH better quality than a 50mb file.

The layouts section reminds me of the "skins" for this site... moving on.

Last I checked a scanlation was a scan of something that was translated by fans, not a scan of the English butchered version. Also, if such a thing as image zips are killing your bandwidth you really need to find a better host.

The wallpaper section feels like a used condom in the fact that there is only ONE wallpaper here that I can even really say is good. The other two just aren't. One is too washed out and hard to use on an LCD and the other is way too dark with the image contrast a bit too dark for it to really work. I am not saying that my wallpapers are any better, but these need a bit of sprucing. After seeing the first one in a contest a long time ago, I had hoped for more of the same caliber.

This site has me feeling like I have eaten saltines for the last 6 hours without a hope for water or any type of beverage. It is bland and dries the tastebuds. However I am not sure why but something about this site makes me want to wish it the best and hope that in future incarnations (which I hope there are) that some of the older outdated things could be gotten rid of or replaced for something a bit more modern. Oh and web author, I will bake you my famous banana muffins if you ditch the Java section. That one really hurt.
