Layout & Design

Is the layout intuitive and easy to navigate? Is it compatible across all browsers and resolution? Is it aesthetically pleasing?

Tellu

The image used for this layout is a great one from an LD cover, and it's good quality! I especially love the portion of it used to make the splash page, with ChibiUsa surrounded by rose petals. All of the colors here match nicely, and the text can be read very easily. The navigation is very clearly marked, and things are put together coherently. Great job!

One weird thing about this layout is the fact that the title is actually INSIDE the content layer. Why? It would look much better directly on the title graphic, which is the standard place to put the title. Inside the content layer, it only serves to increase the amount of space before you get to ACTUAL content. The main image at the top is far too large, and coupled with the strange placement of the title, I have to scroll down TOO far the get to real content. I can only see two lines peaking out at the bottom, and that simply isn't enough. On any website, your content should be the priority - not the graphics. Sites like this with excessively large title images seem to be putting graphics above content.

Another thing that gives the image that this person doesn't care as much about content is the fact that the "site" section of links is placed above the actual content. I have always felt that this section should go last. If you put it first, you are essentially telling your visitor that he or she should sign your guestbook and look at the links out BEFORE ever checking out the actual content of your site. That makes no sense at all, so this section should be placed last on the list.

Written Content

Is there lots of written information? Are all profiles, back story, and other textual content accurate? Does the site offer fanfiction or other miscellaneous written content?

Well, i dunno if its my pc or not, but i dont see much on the main page... like..nothing in the center...odd. Well, luckily for u, im in charge of written today. Lets see what we got.

In the about section:

Nothing written in the Naoko Takeuchi section. >.> So, im moving on the Anime Seasons part. Alright, the first season is very detailed...a bit..too detailed. Not so bad as most that I've seen where they describe everything about everything. That can be quite annoying. Oh, one thing...its spelt "Zoisite." Soooo many people ge that wrong. There isnt a "ci" in japanese kana, just "si." Season 2, there's even more detail then in season 1. For example, the creator writes "Rini and Serena hugged tightly. Rini said "Thank you... Mama". Rini turned away and used her key, vanishing into the future. Serena whispered goodbye, but Darien put his arm around her. "

Now, im all for a decent level of detail, but this is getting too much. I will say, once again, that I dont like it when people describe the whole, bloody, arc. You need to tell them JUST enough. The reason is u want them to buy the DVDs. :le sigh: She does the same type of descriptions in all of the arcs.

Now, to manga...Ok, well, its simply an overview of the manga's life. (The Author, Awards she won for it, publishing, etc.)

The "About Me" section...w00t HTML Tables! Its a nice, little description of herself, and her likes and dislikes. Nothing too special here.

Ok, the rest is mostly graphics. I will say, not bad on da written-ness. Im a bit of a stickler bout certain things. But, i believe this site will do.

Visual Content

What kind of visual content is offered? Is it efficiently organized and intuitively accessible? Are all visual media offered legally?

I have been to this site before, and I remember the navigation buttons making me feel like I wanted a Pokemon seizure. Yes, animated buttons can be nice, but these are too much and too tacky. However I am not here to write about layouts, so I am onto the media.

Well I am in the picture gallery and since this is a Geoshities site, I have to wonder how many images I will get to look at before the bandwidth goes bye bye.... The Moon thumbnails loaded, but lets see how many pictures load. Oh wait, this person took the liberty of signing up a SECOND Geocities account for images.... how kind of you. The "manga" picture sections shows a THIRD Geocities account. I wonder how many more we will rack up before this site is done....

The problem with the picture galleries is that I would rather go to a much larger more well known site that doesn't take twenty minutes to load than to come here and wade through multiple Geocities sites to view these images. Whereas the images are nice, if I wanted these manga pictures I could go to somewhere like Mangastyle to get them. The Gifs section is no different. They are game sprites that are animated and that is also hosted on a FOURTH Geocities site. Even moreso, this part of the site is horribly organized and is rather getting on my nerves to say the least. Yes all the sprites work but would it kill you to have some organization?

Fanart has failed to produce well ANYTHING, so I am on to graphics with a full tank of oxygen and my wading boots.

I applaud that thought of making avatars, and I boo the lack of effort put forth here. Most of these are image snips that are poorly done, badly positioned, and a border is slapped on them. Lets just say that Tiara Envy would have a field day with these squares. And wait... HOLY SHIT BALLS BATMAN! These are actually linked in from THIS Geocities site.

I like the thought of printable bookmarks but most of these are rather tasteless. If you coated them in a good bit of chocolate I might be willing to bite, but thus far, none of them are really pulling me, and by the way, what is that at the top of the monochrome Chibimoon bookmark?

You know, I love simplicity, but the buttons section takes that term to a whole new level. I am not photoshop master, but wow... The guestbook page doesn't reap anything any more impressive but the Error Page does do nicely. They are simple images, but the expressions chosen are to die for and actually FIT the banner.

The splash images section is one that has hit a nerve. The very last image offered on this page isn't much of work at all.... the person took a wallpaper that is easily found at animewallpapers.com and slapped the word enter on it with a border and is considering that a splash image. That my friends I consider rude, disrespectful and outright theft of another artist's work! See what happens when you do something like that with MY work.

The "games" section of this site is reminiscent of a certain site that incited a flame war with us last year... the games are old, move on people. The wallpapers section confounds me as why would somebody with a 640x480 person want these? I mean really, most of these colors aren't web safe and as such would NOT be viewed properly on a machine that is old enough to run a 640x480 resolution....

The awards are laughable and typical of a site that lacks something worthwhile, so I am on to "Awards I have won!"...

Ok, I am severely confused... Usually a page like this actually displays the awards won... but there is just a list of links here. One of which goes to the Elite Awards and by perusing those I didn't see this site listed ANYWHERE in the lists of winners, and I can understand why. I don't consider this site Elite. I don't even consider this site good. Bland at best...

My final thought is this.... don't feed me that you got an elite award as you didn't under THIS site name obviously. Maybe another one, but I honestly can't figure out how. Get a real server. You have a decent START for a site, but being on Geocities is going to continue to turn people away... and most of all about this topic..... QUIT BEING CHEAP AND PAY FOR A SERVER INSTEAD OF BEING A TIGHT ASS AND SIGNING UP MULTIPLE FREE ACCOUNTS!@

I'm outta here folks, look back next week for your dose of insult theater brought to you by Mimette!
