Layout & Design

Is the layout intuitive and easy to navigate? Is it compatible across all browsers and resolution? Is it aesthetically pleasing?

Viluy

The splash page is simple, giving the user notice as to what is needed to view the site. The graphic is simple - a picture of some of the characters in Sailor Moon with the site name over top. As a splash page goes, it does the job.

The main page layout is fairly simple, having stars scattered around the left and top with photos of the actresses in costume from the Sera Myu musicals. Pretty understandable, given this is a Sera Myu shrine. The navigation menu is to the left of the page with an organised structure.

The layout itself is pretty simple and uninspiring. There is nothing technically wrong with it, it's just boring and...well, uninspiring. There's nothing there to catch the interest of the visitor. The navigation links are a bit small (the font that is) which also doesn't help. The font size remains an issue throughout the site. It might help to make the font larger to make it easier to read for those of us with visual difficulties. The common sense structure is a plus, however.

There is still quite a bit of information missing, but it appears to be a relatively new site so that is to be expected, as the site owner may be still working on it. There is also the issue of the relative scarcity of material in English to work with - the musicals were for the Japanese market only, basically, which means the information would only be accessible to those who speak/read Japanese, for the most part. She's done well, despite this. There's just more that could be done as far as visual presentation, in order to make the site more interesting to visit for the average viewer. As it is, it seems more for those who already know and care about the musicals, rather than to encourage people to learn about it who don't already know.

My recommendations for this site would be to create a more esthetically pleasing layout (lose the minimalist look - it doesn't work very well for this reviewer), and make the font size a little larger, to make the content easier to read and see.

Written Content

Is there lots of written information? Are all profiles, back story, and other textual content accurate? Does the site offer fanfiction or other miscellaneous written content?

Alright, so, first of all, I know absolutely nothing about Sera Myu. So, I stand to learn a lot from this site.

The Musicals section could use a little bit of clarification for the noobs. It's divided up according to the stars who play Sailormoon, which is an interesting way to organize things, but I'm not terribly sure what each of the links lead to. Are they parts of the musical? Musicals? Songs? It might be my ignorance speaking, but I wasn't too clear on where these links would take me.

There are three profiles in the profiles section, and in them, the webmaster profiles the actors who play characters in the musicals Unfortunately, there isn't much written information in them -- I have the physical stats of the charcters, but not much information on the people's personalities, histories, or even other things they have down in their careers. That's rather depressing.

Overall, the site has very little information to judge it on. While it offers lots of interesting images, I didn't learn a damn thing about Sera Myu. This is definitely something to work on.

Visual Content

What kind of visual content is offered? Is it efficiently organized and intuitively accessible? Are all visual media offered legally?

Viluy

There are a lot of images, separated into categories both by actor and by character. Quite a few of the actress images aren't there (yet?). There are still quite a few to choose from. The images are on the small side though. I appreciate people might not have space to put large images, especially on a site like this, but there are always ways to do it, such as asking for file sponsors or using multiple sites to host images, such as Photobucket, Picture Trail etc.

The details in quite a few of the images are lacking - many are screenshots taken of what appear to be poor quality copies of the musicals. It's a bit frustrating to try and find a good picture of a costume or actress when all one can see is grainy footage. I would much rather not have a picture at all, than one that's impossible to tell anything from. That's just my opinion anyway.

There's a disappointing lack of music on the site. There are a few mp3s that appear to be on a rotational basis, but not even any links to where you can find more music. As I know of a few sites that offer music, that's a bit of a disappointment that they're not listed in the links or credits. The music is also uncredited. Might want to rectify that, even if it's from CD, it should still be there. It just seems like there wasn't much effort put into researching all the possibilities, as even I know there are more good sites out there for Sera Myu information, images and music than are listed here, and I'm not even a fan.
