Written Content Is there lots of written information? Are all profiles, back story, and other textual content accurate? Does the site offer fanfiction or other miscellaneous written content? |
CyprineAlright, I'm really annoyed right now. I wrote a two page review for KSSR but it never made it through my email from my work computer. So now, it has disappeared and I've got to rewrite this review from scratch. Therefore, it's going to be a lot shorter than the one I wrote before. Right off the bat, the problem with this site is the navigation. Site maps are intended to be used as a reference for a site, but shouldn't be the basis of navigation. I have no idea where all the written content is that I'm supposed to review, so I'm actually going to have to click through all of these links to find the sections I'm supposed to look at. Considering I'm already pissed about losing my review, this isn't going to be a pretty sight. I actually read through the most recent update that displays on the main page. For the record, updates should be little more than a glorified list of what in the site has been updated, to let regular viewers know right away where to go to see new content. This update, instead, was two paragraphs of rambling that could have been summed up simply: the site has a new layout. The rest of the paragraph is all fluff and would be better suited to a "past layouts" section where it would not only be more relevant, but also easier to find should someone actually, y'know, want to find the webmaster's take on their new layout design. The site map also illustrates another common problem with websites: undescriptive subpage names that make it nigh impossible to figure out where you're going to be taken when you click on the link. For example, the second link is for "Archives" -- but what archives? It turns out they're the archives of updates, but I wouldn't have known that until I took the time to click it and find out. And the load time of doing that, alone, is five minutes of my life I'll never get back. The site offers lyrics to the Barenaked Ladies song, "One Week" which makes brief mention of Sailor Moon in one line. I have never understood why Moonies of the mid-nineties clung to that instance of Sailor Moon in pop culture so religiously. Personally, I find it irrelevant and a waste of time and space. Much of the site's other subsections are down or under construction. There is an Episode List that lists all the NA episode names -- a useless feature given that there are neither associated episode numbers nor summaries or descriptions of the episodes to make th elist more relevant. There's a fanfiction section which lists the webmaster's favourite fanfics but not only essentially commits web theft by direct linking them from other sites, but doesn't even offer links or author's names for many of the stories, making it impossible to track those that don't have links down. Again, what could have been a decent section of the site turns out to be a useless waste of disk space. The horoscopes are interesting enough, but the connection to BSSM (which would be easy to establish) is not made clear, so the section is made virtually irrelevant. Meanwhile, the jokes are unfunny, and again we see an instance of pseudo-web theft with the reposting of a Y.K.Y.W.T.M.S.M.W. from another site. There are at least two inactive message boards from free services at the site, as well as a topsites that gets almost no traffic for the ten sites on it. This is proof, alone, that just because a free service is offered or a javascript effect is available (and I've had just about enough of dumb screen transitions and mouseover sound effects I can't turn off), doesn't mean you should add it to your site. A crappy site with lots of bells and whistles is still a pile of so much steaming crap. The site offers a dictionary of Japanese-English translations, which has always annoyed me that people think they can learn or understand a foreign language from something like this. Japanese is not set up like English, and a list of vocabulary is about as useful as someone reading Webster's and calling themselves fluent in English. The Senshi profiles are dollbox stats, and some of those are are even inaccurate, I think, which is certainly surprising given that dollbox stats are basically copy-and-paste jobs. Perhaps the only worthwhile section of the whole site is the Voice Artists (re: Voice Actor) section which lists all the NA VAs who voiced Sailor Moon. Not exactly earth-shattering content, but interesting and unique enough. Nonetheless, that one page does not salvage this site, which has now claimed two hours of my life that I will never, ever get back. Thanks a lot, KSSR. |

Visual Content What kind of visual content is offered? Is it efficiently organized and intuitively accessible? Are all visual media offered legally? |
Eudial>.> Why do i sense calamity? I got this strange feeling. lol Adoptions...ok, it appears the creator adopted some kitties a specific site that is linked to this page. Dispite the fact that these are REALLY scary looking Sailor Moon kitties, they all work. Avatars, Bookmarks, Calendars, ID Cards, Greeting Cards, Crossword Drap'n Drop, Animated Gifs, Transparent Gifs, Gift Tags, Image Gallery, Maze, Meatball Hair Guide, Mystery Picture. Puzzles, Screensavers, Wallpapers, .... DO NOT EXIST!!! The Banners section...this is quite interesting. The person was kind enough to give us the codes for these banners, however, they failed to actually SHOW us what the banners look like. How are we supposed to choose our favorite if we don't even know what they look like!??! Like...wow...just wow. Alright, the fanart section is done pretty well. All the images work and their is credit to the author and such. Pretty good job there. FAQs...i knew it was gonna happen. We got broken images, people. *tears* All the images on this page are broken. Shame Shame. AAAAH Music...one of the few multimedia related things that ACTUALLY work. Ok, the songs that are actually downloadable must be put on your hard drive. They appear as ".rm" files. What that is, i have no idea. The other misc. media are run by quicktime, so you don't have to download them to your hard drive. (btw, you should probably tell people what exactly a "rm" file is) Profiles...the thing I like here is that the creator is displaying a small picture of the character and then changes the image after a few seconds. I like this idea. (Btw, those images came from http://www.animewallpapers.com, credit them) Ok, this site is....blah!!!! |
