It's not often I get to address one of the fundamental problems of Sailor Moon web design, but the owner of Princess Serenity's Palace of dreams lets me do so with her opening decaration, "I made this site because sailor moon is my favorite show. . ." That, in and of itself, is not a reason to produce a website, though for many it's the only reason. It's a desire to get closer to the show we love so much by putting work into it. But unless you direct that work toward informing or entertaining your viewers, you might as well leave the site on your own hard drive.

To the site's credit, the Senshi profiles are third from the top, but I'm still going to them first. The text links don't work, so I have to click on the tiny sprite (taking design ideas from Topaz is not a good thing). On the profiles page istelf, there are also sprites for links, and no text at all. That can be a little confusing-I thought Setsuna was Naru for a moment. Also, Uranus and Neptune are animated sprites, but none of the others are. Very inconsistent and annoying. Speaking of which, the page vacillates between dub names and correct names-Usagi, Chibiusa, Mamoru, Makoto, and Minako's pages are all titled with the dub names, but the others aren't. To make it worse, those characters are given their correct names in their dollbox stats. Oh, you expected something other than those? Foolish mortal.

We'll now jump to the top for the pictures page. There are only pictures of the Inner Senshi here, and again there's massive inconsistency. It's Rei on the profiles page, Raye on the pictures page. But Ami is always used. Go figure. There are very few pics here, and that's preferable, since they're big, no thumbnails, and positioned according to no visible pattern.

Games section is next, and I've had more fun at the dentist's than with these games. There's something that I'm assuming is like a virtual pet, based around a seven-character ASCII rendering of Chibi-chibi (no, I'm not on drugs, honest). A magic 8-ball is here as well, and something like the Clock Game from The Price is Right. Neither of these even attempt to connect with Sailor Moon. Which is good, because that would be further sacrilige.

Last main part of the site is the Adoption Center, which as near as I can tell is a place for Sailor Moon pictures that look like they were done by Lisa Frank on crystal meth (which is in no way meant to imply that Lisa Frank would ever use illicit drugs). You can take these and use them to link back to this site, and hope that the freaky eyes warn people away from it. The site ends with awards and links, and I must point out that none of the awards the author has won are for site design. And there are a grand total of two links, neither of which are directly Sailor Moon-related.

So maybe this site's author does love Sailor Moon, but that doesn't make it a good site. Let that lesson be your One Good Thing for it.

Layout-Not really a layout. Don't know what exactly to call it. On the right are sprites for menu buttons. I suggest making a frame type layout so that the visitors aren't taken to new pages with different backgrounds. I just think it would make the site easier to navigate.

Content-Some pictures (from Manga, Anime and PGSM), games, info, and some other stuff. Not much content to keep visitors to stay. Maybe put some media on the site. Also have the pictures in catagories-more so then what they are at now. Meaning have thing PGSM pictures in one page and Manga pictures on another. Just to keep things in order.

Backgrounds-Different backgrounds for each page. Nothing blinding or making me dizzy but keeping with one background is your best bet. This is good if you don't know how to make a site with frames.

Overall Opinion-Not much content but the site can still be approved for what it does have. For the pictures, again, I think the author's best bet is to keep them catagorized by Manga, Anime and PGSM-just to make them easier to find. The background images/colors should be one and not many. You want your site to stand out but you don't want to over do it will multiple backgrounds.

Breakdown of site 17/100

Welcome and site Identity 1
-Not really much to welcome a person except huge link buttons to the guestbook and a picture of Serenity and Endymion with a caption under it. It doesn't look like much thought went into the welcome at all. If you're going to have a page like this, try to make it inviting to the visitor - catch their eye with something (other than cute little spritey things) that will hook them into the rest of your site. As it stands, the visitor will just walk away.

Navigation 3
-Interesting idea using sprites as links to your pages, but the descriptions don't really give much away as far as the content of the site/links. Try and make them more descriptive of site content.

Content of Interest 3
-The pictures are not in any discernable order and are on pages with inconsistant backgrounds. If you want a good gallery, make your pictures all one size (ie use thumbnails that open up into the full sized versions when clicked). This works wonders. One of the hallmarks of a good site is consistancy in design and this site hasn't got it. Something to work on. The games leave a lot to be desired - there is nothing to say how to play the first game at all for those of us who aren't that way inclined. Scout info leads us to the standard (by now) profile of Usagi/Serena Please try to be consistant here with the names. Don't use one in one place and the other in another part of the site. It just looks sloppy. Also, use the names consistantly for all of the characters. Having Usagi under both Serena and Usagi on the same page, then Haruka as just Haruka rather than Amara is very confusing.

Filler 2
The adoptions, adoption centre and games seem to be filler to try and disguise the lack of information and thought that seems to have gone into this website. If you're going to have them, put them on one page under misc. or something. It's best to have too little than too much rubbish cluttering up your site.

White-space 2
-The information is spread rather haphazardly around the site, with the pictures being in no particular order or sizing, and the information and site in general being all over the place. The whole idea is to set things out in a logical (hopefully) and ordered way so that the eye flows naturally from one thing to the next, rather than wandering wildly around wondering where everything is.

Other 2
-One thing to note here. A HUGE no-no is the background music on the page. Deaf people like me can't hear it properly (if at all) and hearing people don't like to be blasted away by weird random songs while they browse sites. It may have been cool once but that time has been and gone long since. Lose the music before you lose visitors. Also, I have seen no crediting of information, graphics, backgrounds, nothing. That also is a huge problem. You could be accused of theft if you don't credit your sources at the very least, and put a link to your sources at best, explaining where you got them from and following whatever policies the sites have on usage of their material. Back and forward buttons are needed too. I hate having to use my back button if I can help it. (yes, I'm lazy *grins*)

Alright after viewing this page I immediately checked the source code to confirm my theory and it WAS confirmed. They did indeed use the Pagebuilder.... I don't think I will ever understand why somebody would think that they want to create a website and think that using a pagebuilder will get them a quality site.... it just does cheap shoddy work that makes your site look awful. Sorry but it is the hard cold truth that if you want to make a nice website you need to have some grasp of what you are doing, and the best way to do that is to step away from the page builders and learn how to code your own.

This sites main page consists of a BADLY tiled background of white roses. It is faded to see anything, but that is about the only good thing I can say. The next problem with this main page is that this web author doesn't know what color to go with for font it seems. The first one is what looks like it is going to be the page title in royal blue that says "Princess Serenity's Palace of dreams". I am curious why they didn't capitalize "dreams", but hey, that is why I can proudly say I didn't design this page ^_^;

The fonts change again underneath that to say "Welcome" in a baby blue color, and then is followed by an image and then below that, there is what appears to be a periwinkle colored font and below that, it switches to black and REALLY tiny to say "Clique/Clubs:" and then some icon looking images along with a BRIGHT BLUE link and black text....

Below that, there is a Bravenet "Join the Mailing List" form and below that, a button for email and buttons for signing and viewing a guestbook (hmm :P) and a counter that registers 40 hits. How come I am willing to bet most of those hits came from us viewing this....

Lemme jump back up to the top next to the first image because on the right is a small list of sprites with PINK text (reminiscent of Cindra's site) next to them. They are linked thankfully, so lemme click those links and see what is behind each of them.

First link says "Pictures"... hmm... why do I dread this? Now I know why I dread it.... first off, there is a BADLY tiled background that you can obviously tell was made for a resolution of 800x600 and it shows on my resolution of 1024x768 easily. However, The part that is really bugging me about this page is that she is using the dubbed names for the character pictures, yet she spelled "Amy" as "Ami".... if you are going to stick with the dub, then do so, but also there is zero mention of the outer soldiers even though they have LONG been dubbed.

Lets look at the pcitures.... Well I have seen worse, lets put it that way. These "galleries" if you can call them that are nothing more then some SMALL images that range from 3 - about 7 images per page of the character. These images would be considered thumbnails on some other sites, so they are NOT quality images and are rather bad. Let me hit this Lycentia "home" button and try out the other categories.

The "games" section has GOT to be a joke.... I have seen better "games" then this on a livejournal "quiz".... this is sad, so I am moving on.

"Scout info" confuses me. As I stated in the galleries, the outers have LONG been dubbed, but they are JUST NOW making an appearance on this page.... Why did this person feel that they shouldn't be graced with a gallery each, but decided to put information about them.... that is really odd... Also odd is that when I click on Sailor Uranus, I am told that her name is Haruka Tenou, which is incorrect if you go by the dub or the original.... Check for spelling errors before trying to claim that it is the name of a character. I am also puzzled that on even the "inners" that were formerly referred to by their dub names.... well here they are referred to as their original names in the profile, yet at the top of the page, it says their dub names.... what is wrong with consistancy? Please tell me....

Adopted and Adoption Center are just plain boring and I won't go into them....

Awards.... wait a sec... whoever gave this site awards is either smoking some REALLY good crack or they were trying to be insanely nice for NO visible reason. Oh wait, these are awards won for what looks like quizzes. But this site is also "offering" awards, so lets look at those. Uhm, if I was a site trying to get awards, I would NOT want these. I mean that whole heartedly... These are just pictures that were opened in paint and a block of color with some text on it was added. You can SEE it visibly where the paint block is.... you can do MUCH better then this with Paint... I know, because I have done it....

Links is definately nothing special... a few links here that don't go well together on a blue background with Cindra Pink text.

I am going back to the main page as it doesn't hurt my eyes. It is an eyesore yes, but it doesn't make me want to stab myself in the eye with a hot needle like this "Links" page does.

This site is bad... in fact it is very bad. Did I tell you that everything has a different background? Oh yeah! Every page has a different background and text color... to the point that I got SERIOUSLY tired of looking after about 2 seconds... I'm signing the guestbook and then slamming the door on this abomination of a site and throwing out the key. It will be in the bad column for a good while I think. At least until the author gets a clue and fixes some stuff.
