Layout & Design

Is the layout intuitive and easy to navigate? Is it compatible across all browsers and resolution? Is it aesthetically pleasing?

Viluy

The main image is of Sailor Moon and Chibi Moon with Pegasus and is titled Gems Ablaze. I'm not quite sure why but *shrugs*. The graphic is interestingly done, but I'm not keen on the grid-type pattern on it. The manga image that's been used for the graphic also doesn't look very good quality, but that could also just be my eyes playing up.

The type of layout appears to be an iframe style, with the content in a frame. The font in the frame is a bit small but the frame size itself is a bit small. The colours used in the graphic and layout are not 'in yer face'; they don't clash but neither do they make it stand out any.

It's a different kind of style than most I've seen, but it just doesn't stand out enough to make me go WOW or anything like that. It's nice but there's nothing much else that can be said for it.

The navigation is at the bottom, where it can be overlooked if you're not paying attention. It's fairly self-explanatory except for the 'Galaxia, Galaxia' title. It's not very clear what the content there is from the title.

Written Content

Is there lots of written information? Are all profiles, back story, and other textual content accurate? Does the site offer fanfiction or other miscellaneous written content?

Oh, I remember this site from WAY back in the day! I knew it when it was still called "Initial U." Ah, it seems like only yesterday that the name was changed. Man, am I old...

So, first of all, it is abundantly clear that a lot of hard work was put into this site. I haven't seen a single typo yet, which is awesome! I also don't see any glaring grammatical mistakes, and this person actually used "quotations" rather than "quotes." It simply makes my heart melt. *swoon*

The character profiles are extremely detailed, especially for the senshi. The author of this website does an excellent job describing the personalities of all of the senshi, and I found very few errors. Although this person did an excellent job describing the various attacks of the senshi, I do wonder why she chose to leave off a large number of them. There were a few tiny factual errors with this website, but nothing too serious. She says that Sailor Moon was the first senshi to be discovered, when Sailor V was, in fact, first. She also says that Rei has no romantic interests in the manga, when she DOES have deep feelings for Kaidou (in Casablanca Memory).

The entire anime section on page about Sailor Cosmos is wrong. Sailor Cosmos NEVER appears in the anime; what you see is an adult version of the Light of Hope (ChibiChibi), but this character is never referred to as Cosmos. Further, Cosmos is actually the true form of Sailor Moon, and therefore cannot be ChibiChibi in the anime, because ChibiChibi in the anime is Galaxia's starseed! ChibiChibi also did not return to the past from the future in the anime because she couldn't fight Chaos... Galaxia sent her Star Seed away herself.

Moving on now... I also noticed that there were several misspellings of names on this website. She seems to have used incorrect transliterations of the names. Here are some of the names that were misspelled (although this list is anything but complete): Aluminum Seiren, Sailor Quartetto, Amazones Quartetto, Esmeraude, Nehellenia, Metallia (haha, this person actually called her "Queen Metallica," which I find hilarious!), Helios, Berthier, etc.

I also don't like the fact that this site picks and chooses from the anime AND manga, without making a distinction. For instance, she is talking about the anime, and then all of a sudden, she says that Makoto saved Usagi from getting hit by a car. That only happened in the manga; in the anime, Makoto saved Usagi from a group of bullies.

One last nitpicky thing, and then I promise I'll quit! I will NEVER understand why some people write "Sailormoon" to refer to the senshi and "Sailor Moon" to refer to the show. It seems absolutely ridiculous to me! In Japanese, words are connected, but that doesn't mean that they are not two separate words. For instance, in Japanese script, we see Tsukino Usagi written as one word: Tsukinousagi. That doesn't mean that we should write "Tsukinousagi." "Sailor" and "Moon" are two different words, and should be written as such.

Moving on now to the "Galaxia! Galaxia!" section. This is sort of like a Jerry Springer show, but with Sailor Moon characters rather than white trash. o.O It was really funny and very well written! Everything was very descriptive - I could imagine everything happening in my head as I read it. Good stuff!

Ok, I'm done! The last thing I want to say is that I really enjoyed looking over the information on this site. Things are very well written, and the personality descriptions of the senshi are great. Despite the fact that I've been incredibly nitpicky about this site (what can I say? I'm nitpicky about every site!), I feel that the written content here is EXCELLENT. Well done!

Visual Content

What kind of visual content is offered? Is it efficiently organized and intuitively accessible? Are all visual media offered legally?

I just want to point out that the MIDIs on this page crashed my browser. Now, I'm not entirely sure that this is the webmaster's fault -- after all, the links were fine, and it may just be that my computer is set to download these MIDIs funkily, but nonetheless, I'm irked.

This site (as you can tell from that intro) offers MIDIs as its first course in Multimedia. Northing too special, since, again, in this day and age of MP3's, I feel that MIDIs are so useless that they're not really worth hosting anymore. It would be better if this webmaster conserved the space for a nice image gallery.

Alright, clicking on Multimedia brings me to a mere fragment of a sentence that plummets this site down from Bland to Bad for me, and which helps me segueway into my main criticism for this site: no crediting. In fact, this webmaster says, (and I quote)

"These don't belong to me and weren't created by me, so you're free to use them..."

No. Just no, my friend. This is not acceptable webetiquette. This webmaster has not only committed web theft by stealing MIDIs, icon sets, screensavers and quote generators from other, enterprising web developers who created these resources, but is crass enough to admit it on their website and encourage the proliferation of these theived materials to others. It's like a bank robber going into a bank, stealing a bunch of cash, and then giving it away on the street to onlookers who have just watched the hold-up; the bank robber has no right to give away money that isn't his, and if you take it knowing full well that it is stolen goods, you too are complicit in a crime.

Similarly, this webmaster needs to check themselves. There is no good reason why they should feel themselves within their rights to say that you, the viewer, are "free" to take the resources they have stolen and are hosting.

Moreover, that's all the multimedia that this site has to offer. Certainly nothing that makes me sit up and take notice. Gems ablaze? More like cracked and lackluster to me.
