Layout & Design

Is the layout intuitive and easy to navigate? Is it compatible across all browsers and resolution? Is it aesthetically pleasing?

Mimette

Well here I am filling in for Viluy while she recovers from her injury. She was set to review layout this week, so I will be taking her place on this.

I am greeted by a splash page. We have what appears to be some fanart here in the splash image. It also lists a set of requirements for viewing the site which I thoroughly like. I meet all of these requirements as well, so that is definitely a plus. Normally I would say that I don't care for the standard blue link border around the splash image, but given the colors on this particular splash image, it actually works!

By modern layout standards, this site would be considered basic and bland, however it accomplishes its purpose on the first page rather plainly and easily. It is functional and clean if not a bit bland. This site is based on a fancreated character though, and as such, without actual fanart, it isn't as if they is going to be a lot of design. I am happy to see the splash image is also the image used as the top image of the layout. A simple black background with readable white text and blue links completes the layout and it is easy to read and go through.

This layout is simplicity at its best. There is nothing fancy here but it accomplishes a clean look to a website without any bells and whistles that are so common in the interweb world today. I am honestly glad to see something so simple that works. There isn't much else to say about it. It is consistant and a pleasure to view a simple shrine to a fanfiction and its character.

Written Content

Is there lots of written information? Are all profiles, back story, and other textual content accurate? Does the site offer fanfiction or other miscellaneous written content?

Tellu

I'm on written content this week, but since this is a website about fan-created senshi, of course I can't comment on how accurate it is. All I can say is that there are very few typos and the author uses relatively good grammar (although there are some mistakes, particularly with punctuation). The biggest problem I see is with style elements of the writing. I think that by reading a few style books, this author can greatly improve the stories. For instance, I would be more interested in the stories if the sentences didn't seem so short, choppy, and disconnected at times. I'm not saying that the writing is bad; it's just mediocre. It needs to be spiced up a little bit!

Other than that, I don't think that the story itself is very creative. I definitely lost interest after reading a few profiles and the first few paragraphs of some stories.

Visual Content

What kind of visual content is offered? Is it efficiently organized and intuitively accessible? Are all visual media offered legally?

Cyprine

Since I'm on media this week, I'm going to head straight for the galleries.

The galleries are organized by otaku senshi. The images are thumbnailed and the all seem to work. They seem to be a mix of Candybar dolls, poorly-drawn anime-style art, and some pretty horrible sprite edits. That's not to say that there aren't any amazing images, it's just that they're buried in crap.

Further down the page, there's an "Art Gallery Index" that has non-working links for over half of it. Fabulous! The FanArtist's side at least works, but I wonder where these galleries were otherwise linked on the page.

That seems to be it for the media here, unless you want to request an image. Judging by what I've seen so far, I think I'll pass on that. In fact, I think I'll pass on this whole media section, thanks.
