Layout & Design Is the layout intuitive and easy to navigate? Is it compatible across all browsers and resolution? Is it aesthetically pleasing? |
ViluyThe site is actually not bad, as things go. The content is presented well, the actual layout design is not bad. The only problem is the mesh background. It really needs fading....a lot. It interferes with the content, which is also in a colour that is not easy to read against the strong aqua blue of the background (minus the mesh-screen). There's actually quite a bit of content here - it looks like the site is pretty complete as it is, which is so much better than finding half-finished sites. The only thing is that it makes the site look pretty static, with not much more new content being added. This means that visitors won't really have much excuse to visit the site again. Something that might help in viewing the site is fading the mesh-style background a bit, as well as making the colour of the content text darker, maybe a darker blue? This way I can actually read it easier. One thing that I found off-putting was the way that you have to make the browser window full size in order to see that the actual layout is centred. Maybe having it not fixed would be an idea, but that's just to suit ME rather than everyone else *chuckles* and not actually necessary in a site. |

Written Content Is there lots of written information? Are all profiles, back story, and other textual content accurate? Does the site offer fanfiction or other miscellaneous written content? |
Cyprine"Blue Bubbles" is an Ami-chan shrine, and seems to cover all the different Ami incarnations. Not the world's most creative site name, but who's complaining? The profiles are written in a very informal manner, more like a stream of consciousness than your standard profile. This can be both good and bad; I tend to prefer the more formal profiles because they tend to sound more reliable and accurate, but writing in this style makes your profile more unique and injects some personality into the same old information. In the Ami-chan profile, Beruche's name is misspelled, and Beruche should probably be called Berthier, but let's not get into that discussion, here. Another minor error: the site says "[Ami]'s like a fish out of the water, and boy can she swim fast" -- "fish out of water" means someone who is out of their element or uncomfortable and, in the context, would actually mean she's terrible at swimming. But these are all nitpicky -- my overall impression of the Ami-chan profile is that all the information is relatively accurate, although some of the details are a little too vague and could be improved by actually doing stuff like, y'know, finding out what "Makoto's friend"'s name is. The Sailor Mercury profile is less detailed, and could stand to use some more fluffing up, even including such pertinent details as when Sailor Mercury became Super Sailor Mercury or even some notable battles. The profile includes a list of Mercury's attacks and transformations, but, though I like the various images decorating the information sections, I think it wouldn't be too difficult to track down images that actually correspond to the attacks and transformations. While a disclaimer is given that the images don't correspond, they certainly could. Also, I'm certain that Mercury had more than one attack in the manga, but only one is given. The Blue Love section which covers Ami's rather lacklustre love life was entertaining and speculated on more than her brief affair with Urawa Ryo, a nice touch. The True Friends section was also very well done, giving the webmaster's opinions on Ami's relationships with all the other Senshi. The Enemies section covers the various villains who are Mercury's equivalent in each of the teams, giving a brief overview of personality and how the webmaster feels they compare to Mercury. Again, light on facts and heavy on editorializing, but in an endearing way. Nitpicky stuff: Beruche's name is misspelled again, and it's generally agreed that it should be Aluminum Seiren, with an "e". The Episodes section is a nice commentary on the webmaster's favourite Mercury related episodes, again written in an informal style which does unfortunately leave us a little confused as to what's going on if we haven't seen the episodes before. My only complaint is that it's a little hard to read, and might benefit from being broken down into links so that we can jump from one episode to another without having to scroll through them all. The "Living Color" section gives some thoughts on PGSM, and is even more vague on details than previous sections. The Mercury-related commentary is strangely interspersed with details completely unrelated to our favourite blue Senshi, such as the webmaster's opinion on PGSM Zoicite and Nephrite. Of all the information sections, this particular section could've been a little more focussed and done wtih a few more facts. Of fanstuffs, the site offers an Ami quiz (which I aced), two fanfics (which I'm not going to read), Ami interviews (very cute and creative, the webmaster uses the informal tone to their advantage much more so than in the profiles) and a Find Ami game (so that's what those little video game sprites were for). There is a short explanation as to why the webmaster chose to make a Mercury shrine which is another nice self-injection into the site (although the site already fairly oozes with the webmaster's personality) and -- mad bonus points -- site credits which list where the various images and information is from. On the credits link, the sailormercury.net link is broken. In the links sections, strangely enough, the Pekopeko.net link is broken, as are the following:
*whew*... that was a lot of clicking to come up with that list. Overall, this site has some decent written content but could probably benefit from the supplementation of a few more hard facts. |

Visual Content What kind of visual content is offered? Is it efficiently organized and intuitively accessible? Are all visual media offered legally? |
EudialAlrighty. Lots of BLUE! lol. The top picture is far too bright. Well, the thumbnails used in the "who" section are super tiny. I actually had to put on my glasses to see what exactly the image was. To my fav part, media! A decent selection of music files in here. And even has a brief description of where the song came from. Most importantly, they all work!! Yay! The videos section has two clips. They both work which is good. I have one suggestion: put how big the files are. The reason is because the "Mercury Aqua Mirage" clip is 12.2 MBs, which is definitely not dial-up friendly. In the image section, we got only 1 dead picture. The rest are working, little thumbnails that you can click on to make larger. Thank God. WORKING images! You put Eudial in a good mood. I'm amazed. In regards to multimedia, this is actually a decent site. Wow, I was beginning to wonder if there were any decent SM sites left. I guess I am done here. |
