SaturnAhh.... Sailormusic.net.... The site that a lot of other sites steal their files from. Good job to the creator of this site... may all you thieves out there fall over dead for your constant theft from this site. What I mean by that is this...This site has probably the largest selection of SM music that I know of. As much as I don't care for ogg format files, if you really want to hear a song, you will probably find it here. Some of you might wonder why I don't care for ogg format. And that is just this. A lot of the music I collect ends up in my iPod. Anybody that has one will tell you that ogg is NOT a format that is accepted into the iPod, so I have to go through the arduous task of converting the file to a format that IS acceptable for my iPod to use it. However, this does not detract from me downloading the files as I can still listen to them on my machine rather easily. However, I understand why a lot of webmasters are taking to using them these days on their sites as opposed to other file formats, and that is because the files are compressed a lot more than with other formats. Meaning they are smaller, and take up less bandwidth. There is actually a blurb about ogg that I would like to contradict on this page here. It reads: "MP3 files are forbidden by the Terms of Service of most web site hosts because they are such a drain on resources and because of the legal issues. Ogg Vorbis files are not." Where this is true about free hosting services. This is rarely true about services that are paid for. Take my host for instance. 1and1 does not have a restriction on the types of files that are able to be on your site. They however do have a blurb in their TOS about copyright and that is where it stands. Now say I was to go over to Geocities and try to make a site on their free service.... and well lets just say they wouldn't be happy about letting me upload mp3 files. This is where ogg files are great. However it is great only if it is YOUR OWN file ripped from YOUR OWN cd and not just grabbed from this lovely site. *turns back to review* Once again, I am greeted by the "anti Internet Explorer" script on this site. I already went on about why IE is not the biggest evil in the world, but I can say this. Watching my husband get pissed earlier because Firefox wouldn't let a site load properly and work properly, but then loading it in IE and it working fine was amusing. We aren't talking some random fansite either. We are talking a site that literaly gets MILLIONS of hits per day. Way to go there Firefox! So next time somebody wants to slam IE, think about how many sites don't display properly in other browsers because they can't accept STANDARDIZED code. Another blurb about this that amuses me is that on the FAQ page this is stated: "I currently test my site in Internet Explorer 6 and Netscape 7, browsers that support Internet standards." If these are what you use to test your site and they support internet standards, why are you whoring Firefox? Alright, why have I gone on and on about this? Because this site is music upon music upon music. Get over here, download some of your favorites, some of the ones you haven't heard before and turn up the speakers. There isn't anything to say. The site is great. The content is great. Just stop trying to push your likes of certain browsers and programs on me or anybody else that likes what works for them. |

UranusThis is bound to be one of those quick "quit reading and go there!" reviews. There's not much you can say in praise of a site that does what some others have, but which remains a major necessity to Sailor Moon fans: host the music. The show itself is available on DVD easily enough, the manga may be found with a little searching, but the music is only available with much work and at a prohibitive cost. Ergo, sailormusic.net.The songs are arranged by CD, but if you don't know which CD a song was on, it's not too hard to browse around and find it. Mostly the files are here for people who want to download in bulk. The vocals I imagine are the popular ones, but don't overlook the background music. There's something to be said for a piece you may have heard hundreds of times without ever actually listening to it. On the chance that a CD contains nothing but redundant songs, you are directed to the other CD, as in the case of the SuperS Theme Song Collection. The major complaint some might have is that the songs are in .ogg format instead of .mp3. There is a detailed argument as to why ogg is better, but still when I download from here, my first step is to run it through my mp3 converter. Now, posting the files in ogg is forgivable (more than forgivable, it makes sense from a bandwidth standpoint to have files half the size), but being ogg-centric is less so. There are guides on how to play oggs, but none on how to convert to mp3 (it is very easy with the right software). And there are so many reasons to use mp3--portable mp3 players, ease of redistribution, other websites which only take mp3, etc. However, there is a guide to converting to .wav, and if you're any kind of digital song user at all, wav to mp3 is a snap. But with so much work gone into the site, there's no sense in bickering about formats. If the sheer bulk of downloads isn't enough, there are the CD covers on each page (some are damn beautiful), lyrics to the vocal songs, and a biography of the man behind all the BGM, Arisawa Takanori. So head on over and sample some of the work of this god of music. I personally recommend the S Music Collection, track 3, part 2. |

PlutoSailorMusic.net. Well, the name speaks for itself. Its a site filled with well...music. lol. Ok, the main page has a generic black background, and we have naviagation on both sides with updates in the center. Lets head into music download......Well, very impressive. It has ALOT of the Sailor Moon anime soundtracks that came out over these past...errr...*does math* 13 years. Each album has the names of the tracks and a choice to d/l the whole album. Some things are unavailable, like the sound drama that are located on the bottom of the page. I'm pretty impressed thus far b/c of the wealth of songs and albums on this site. Everything from the anime to PGSM and Sera Myu. Great! Lyrics is pretty impressive as well. A whole lot of songs have been translated, and they kept the original romanji as well. Its good b/c sometimes people just put the english translation in, and not both. There's part here that gives a bio of the composer of the Sailor Moon music, Arisawa-san. (Thank u to the composer for making all this sweet music lol) Lets see...Help section has a summary of the series and an episode to all the episodes that aired on television and it has the movies as well. The Shopping Guide provides links to where you can buy Sailor Moon merchandise. This site also provides links to where u can players that play Ogg files. This is good b/c at least half of the music files are ogg files. Ok, I really liked this site. If ur looking for a music file from Sailor Moon, this is definitely ur place to go. I may pop by here later to grab a file or two. ^_^ |
