Sailor Moon's Crystal Millennium

The background of Sailor Moon's Crystal Millennium is a picture of twinkling stars. This is particularly appropriate for a site that may well have come out of the Twilight Zone. Some parts seem to be well written and/or well designed. Others, well. . . come from the depths of bad Sailor Moon sites. So let's go look at the good and the bad.

OK, bad things: being a Geoshitties site, there's a bandwidth limit, so you've got a chance of seeing nothing. It's spread over a couple of accounts, so the site is bigger than it might be. And there's some stupid web tricks, like little ripples around your mouse pointer. The irony is that if the bandwidth limit is exceeded, the web tricks don't load. Other minor annoyances include links that go from underlined to crossed out when you mouse over them and the fact that everything is in the Comic Sans font.

My major complaint for this site is the mix of dub and original. One would think this practice would ebb somewhat when they dubbed S and finally gave names to the Outer Senshi, but this site has Trista and Amara next to the Star Lights, who don't exist in the dub yet (and hopefully never will).

So what's good about the site? Well, when they're functioning, the image galleries are nice, if modest. There's even a whole gallery for superdeformed images. There's some music for download, mostly midis but a few real songs. And a funny little page of bloopers, most of which are entirely the fault of the dubbers. These bits are worth seeing.

This site has been in existence for coming up on four years, and it may be time to take the next step. Get their own server, clean up the layout, separate out dub from original. Then they might be able to get some more interactivity, bring in more fans. But they're doing some things right; they're just doing a lot wrong.

The splash page is nice but it takes a bit to load. Maybe the author could skip the sparkles and have a plain black background with the image.

Main page also takes a bit to load. Not a good idea for those on dial up.

Layout-it is a nice layout and fairly easy to navigate. Again drawback to this is the sparkles (or stars that sparkle) in the background.

Content-fairly large amount of images of just about every character. Other content included are biographies, summaries, bloopers (oooo), music and some other stuff to keep the visitor busy.

Background/text-the text doesn't bother me. It doesn't blind me or anything like that. But the stars are what bug me. The author should try just a basic black. Also for the "scouts favorite episodes" there's different backgrounds being used. A good thing to do is keep it the same throughout the entire site. It just makes it easier for the visitors I think.

Overall Opinion-a nice site with tons of information and image galleries but again the main background needs some work. It takes the page(s) longer to load then it would a "normal" page. I suggest the author work on that issue first then go from there.

Splash Page:

This site's splash is acceptable. I don't like the background nor the sprites ( which aren't credited for ) as they have nothing to do with the splash image which I think is too big and and should be reduced.

Main Page & Content:

The design for the site is ok. It's not all that great again with the background and the top image looks bad with the stupid water effect ( the effect is cool but pointless to the site's integrity ). The Menu is seperated into categories with the menu options within each one. The menu would be better if the options were within the category There's nothing worse than having a million menu options to read through! The site is on geocities which is a big no no in my book. Small sites are best for geocities if you plan to use them. Geocities is not good for large popular sites especially if you are using a free account. There's a lot of use of sprites which aren't credited for why??? I am dreading exploring this site as I know in a minute I will have used up the site's bandwidth. The site is not in uniform at all which I find annoying. Do not try to fit a million elements you think are cool into one layout save them for future layouts!

Overall:

I do not like this site at all the fact it is on geocities is a turn off and everything is in links with bad thumbs! This site needs some serious re-designing, hosting, and re-vamping before it will be an acceptable site.

Alright this site has gotten off to a bad start with the fact that I had to wait for the Geocities bandwidth to reset just to view it. I hope that it was worth the wait, but lemme go on a bit of a tangent here.

There are SO many free website services out there that I will never understand why people will keep going back to Geocities. The fact that it has the largest of popups in the ACTUAL WINDOW of the site is more then annoying and the fact that the bandwidth is doled out hourly instead of monthly is even a greater annoyance. There are MUCH better free services out there and if anybody is planning to build a site, I suggest that you do some research to find somebody better then Geocities. They had their day and even then, they were decent at best, but now they are just horrible and you can do better. That being said, back to the review.

Splash page is alright. I don't care for cheesy animation, but this one isn't too bad with the fact that the image lights up when you mouseover it or click on it. The requirements for this page are rather minimal as well, which is always nice for those people that don't work on the most up to date machines.

Alright entry page. This could use some work. There is an image here that is VERY blurry and not really good quality as I can see the crop lines on it. Also this web author has seen it fit that on this image and the title of the page image that is right next to it, that there will be what looks like your cursor is being dragged through water. I hate animated cursors more then I hate animated images. They are distracting and more of an annoyance then anything else. This one is one of the better ones I have seen, but it still annoys me. I suggest losing it.

This site has what looks like tables and in the main cell it is labeled message board. Ok, but I am doing this review a bit early and it is not quite December 22nd as I type this, yet this message board is labeled as such for the newest update....I am confused by this, as it is also not a message board, but looks more like an update section. Could somebody please inform me what I am truly looking at here?

Oh no.... I knew it... one cheesy animation will beget another one.... there is the old tired "lake" animation effect of the Moon Palace at the bottom of the page.... I am SO tired of seeing this thing... It was the cool thing to do back in the late 90s but its day has passed and I wish the effect would with it... The best part about this one is that it studders after a few minutes as if it is starting over. Woi.... the thought of it hurts the brain even more...

The galleries are enough to royally piss me off. I can understand using the dub names if that is all you have seen and that isn't what bugs me. The fact that I know the creator of these sprites and am friend with this person has me upset as there is no mention of the fact that they were NOT made by this web author. Nor is there any mention of where ANY of these images in the "galleries" came from. I HATE when rightful credit isn't given about content. It burns my biscuits black. For those looking to make a website, take notes. If I find that you didn't credit things like this and I review your site, be prepared to hear the same bitchfest.

The information section is enough to make me vomit as there is nothing here that I couldn't have gotten from other sites, but that this person wants to try to compare the Japanese characters to the English dub ones disgusts me. It looks like they got off to a "decent" start, yet they for some reason they wanted to nauseate us with mutliple font colors and then not elaborate at all on the characters past their names....

Oh yea! "Scout Biographies"... this has me wanting to slam my head INTO my monitor and electricute myself. Look everybody! The same tiled backgrounds that we have been seeing of the soldiers in their princess garb!!! Didn't we wall just NEED to see these again for the 50 millionth time?! I am moving on....

I went to the Bloopers page and thought I was at a Gay Rights Parade as those horrible flashing rainbow bars are there.... (I don't want a single person thinking that that was a homophobic remark. It isn't, so please don't take it as such.) Please people, learn that if you are going to use seperators on a site that they need to be TASTEFUL ones. These bars are NOT. NEXT!

You know I am blowing past the rest of this page. It is just garbage. I haven't seen a lick of credit given anywhere and as it has been said before. This page is nothing special, "it is just like the rest". It is... and I don't want to try to view it all and wait for the bandwidth to reset again and again as it would have to to view the rest of this mess.
