SaturnAlright upon first appearances, this site is nice to look at. It isn't harsh on the eyes at all and has a rather basical flash page. The fanart on this page is wonderful and doesn't seem to be overly tacky and as it is a splash image, I am not going to complain about it being cut off. (On a personal note, whoever drew the fanart is an awesome artist!)Upon opening the page from this splash image I am taken to a very simple but nicely placed layout. The title image is nicely excuted with just some text on a bar with a nice font. (For site authors out there, take tips from this, as you don't have to have a flashy title image on your site, but sometimes a simple text image like this is rather nice with just a plain color background.) I can't help but find the fanart of "Sailor Anubis" on the left amusing as she is in a straight jacket and has a rather sinister look on her face that just makes me giggle. Also the image looks like it is torn at the edges making it look almost like you are viewing a peephole into the world of "Sailor Anubis". A menu is to the right and there is some information on how to join a mailing list further down on the page and then at the very bottom a list of "Affiliates". Now normally when I see a setup like this, it drives me to the brink of insanity, but on this site is rather well executed and not annoying at all. It actually fits into the layout as it is unobtrusive and appears almost like your typical copyright/disclaimer information, but upon inspection is links. Nice design element as it doesn't detract from anything and if anything addes to it. As far as a fanbased character site goes, this site is rather nice. The content consists of information about this character and I am assuming characters in the story (remember I don't read fanfiction). The colors on the page are subdued and not hard on the eyes at all. The page itself is rather amusing to look at and this character looks like it might be a lot of fun (might coax me into reading this fic somehow). There is only one gripe about this page, but I am not really sure if it is one. I am curious as to why the author felt it necessary to have all the links open into a seperate page. It doesn't hurt the set up of this page all that much, but I think I would have preferred them to open in a frame of somesort or maybe even a javascripted window rather then in a new browser window every time. This is my personal preference though as this setup doesn't detract from the site in any way. Overall this is a perfect example of a simple site that is well put together. |

UranusSailor Anubis's site begins with a disclaimer that it can be interpreted as anti-SM, but isn't. We'll see about that. First, this complaint: the site self-refreshes every minute or so. Why? To change the advertising banner. Now, you want to make money off your site, you have every right. I don't like it though, and it's not going to put you in my good books. So you may make less than you thought.Layout time. Black background=good thing. More webpages should consider it. Dark purple, low-point text on black background=bad thing. Maybe it's just my mother's echoing instructions, but I don't sit two inches away from the monitor, which I'd have to do to read this without the Ctrl-A trick. Plus the menu is right out in the middle of the screen, with a graphic to the left. Probably would look better with those reversed. Remember, folks, different can be good, but conventions often exist for a reason. But overall, nothing to send flames about. OK, let's check out what I'm figuring will be the "about" section. It begins, "I am the sailor of all that tips the scales of the mind. I AM pure insanity! I am the one who weighs psychotic pleasures and sane wisdom! I am. . . " Darkwing Duck? Then a little second-person story to lead into the profile. (Cut in here for a major nit-pick. In the story, the phrase "go back from whence you came" is used. This is a redundancy The word whence means "from where." So "from whence" means "from from where." It should be "go back whence you came." Similarly, the word whither means "to where." It's pretentious enough to use the words (I never would. *cough*), so you should at least have them right.) Back to reality, such as it is. There's a dollbox profile of the fan senshi Sailor Anubis, civilian name Anarchic. She must have had cruel parents to name her that. I like this: "Age: She appears to be 18." That's to keep the hentai stories legal, I guess. The rest of the site is further exploration of the fan senshi, and guess what? It's done pretty well. You can tell the author put a lot of time into making all the drawings and fiction and poems. Winamp skins, wallpapers. . . attack WAVs? How many fan senshi have those? Although the voice is soft and girly, it still comes off as pretty scary, kinda like Talking Tina from the Twilight Zone. Which brings me to the potentiality of being seen as an anti-site. It's not. It's a dark look at Sailor Moon. Which isn't a bad thing at all. If anything, Sailor Moon is a little too sugary. Why is S one of the more popular seasons? Because you had people like Uranus and Neptune and Saturn who were anything but sweet little girls. Sailor Anubis carries on that tradition well, and should not be construed as any kind of sacrilige. Vewers should have the maturity to appreciate this kind of site. In closing, let me say this. I didn't expect to find good things here. The ad banner (which is only on the splash screen, BTW) and the dark text turned me off, but the content drew me in. Maybe the layout could be tweaked and professionalized, but that's my only critique. Do yourself a favor and spend an evening with Sailor Anubis. |

NeptuneFirst Impression: Ooooo scary! *Is intrigued to go on* At the top of the page we see a banner to the "ChibiMoon Project" which is a great site to say the least. LOL! Ahem..back to this review.Main Page: A black background which works for this site. There's an image of "Sailor Anubis" choking Sailor Moon. Underneath the image there is a desclaimer which says that the site isn't an Anti-Sailor Moon site but just another fansite. Ooo ok so this is a splash page as when you click on the image it takes you to another page. Ok let's get crackin! This page is I guess the main main page. It has a cool looking image of a wicked Sailor Anubis in a straight jacket looking all evil at me. There are tons of links next to the image so let's check them out.
First up is "Anubis, Inside and Out". The link takes me to a new window and first thing I read is this: "I am the sailor of all that tips the scales of the mind. Next link is "Tricks up my sleeve" which explains her different powers of a senshi. *Snorts* Power to make people go nuts! Wow....scary...I'm liking this made up character... Playmates: Sailor Anubis' friends list. Detailed information about her friends (or lack there of) and her lover. Hmmm interesting. The Good Yet Bad Guys: The Sailor Senshi seem to be the enemy here...such drama in this one's mind. All the pun intended. :D Bedtime Stories: Fanfics about Sailor Anubis. Again I'm not an avid fanfic reader so I'm not gonna bother with the stories. Ok so the list of things go on and on. The only drawback to this menu is that each link opens to a new window. I really don't like that. I do like that fact the the webmaster (or webmistress) made a completely original character and made the rest of the site about her as if she was a true Senshi. A Nut but a Senshi nontheless. Overall Thoughts: A true original site which is hard to come by nowadays. Well the fact that I really don't look doesn't count...The only bad thing again is the fact that each link takes me to a new window. Other then that I really like this site. |
