Breakdown of site 45/100

Welcome and site Identity 4
The little cursor thing is off-putting. I don't like those comet-type cursor things - they just bother me for some reason. There has to be better gimmicks to get you to go to the site than cutesy effects. Since it is a recent redesign, I expect that is why there is only one update. The only problem is that the graphics are different sizes in the updates. It should ideally all be the same size (or similar) because it just looks lopsided.

Navigation 5
It is not readily obvious that you have to click the pink hearts. I was really upset to learn that I couldn't use the site until I was told to click them. *feels like an idiot* *chuckles* You might want to expand the image maps or have text links as well. You pretty much seem to have everything covered tho, as far as links goes.

Content of Interest 5
Word of advice -> with the gallery pictures, it would be better to have the thumbnails all one size, not a combination of sizes, and have just the links to each gallery, rather than having them at the top, with a poorly done gallery of Sawai-san's pictures to start. An interesting idea to have all of the PGSM DVD releases profiled. It helps those fans who are into that, and I haven't seen it done on any other site yet. Notice that it looks so much more uniform and pleasing as the thumbs are all the same size.
For the manga section, I wasn't expecting to see the new covers. I thought it would be a section on the manga itself. For the Extras, wallpapers and Fan art secionts, it would help if there were just links to a page with each of the categories, rather than badly done thumbs all over the place. It's all a jumble and not very eye-catching. With the wallpapers and fan art, it's the same thing, they should ideally be set out in links of each character/artist then you can click on the link to see the images, rather than having them all jumbled together like that. (out of curiousity, did you ask the artists if you could put their images up? I know Alice and I know she's sometimes a bit nervous of people using her images without permission, altho I see you have her link up which is good :))

Advertising and sponsorship 5
The links page....well, it's kind of overloaded. You should ideally rotate your links when you have this many. Having too many links like this makes you look desperate and I do wonder how many of these sites have actually linked you back. For me, it's important to know that the sites you are linking to have linked you back before you actually put them up because it shows that they think you are worthy of linking in the same way that you feel they are worthy of linking. If they haven't, it's worth finding out why, or if they intend to. Sometimes they too have link rotations because of the sheer amount of links they may have.

Self-promotion 3
I know you used to have contests, but that there were a few issues with them. If you do intend to have contests to promote your site, it's worth making sure that they are as fair as can possibly be expected, and avoid the bias that can sometimes creep in. It is fine to be partial to one character or person but you have to remain fair and judge on artistic merit only, not just because they are the only people to enter your contest. You don't need to always have a winner if you don't feel the entries are up to scratch. It makes your site that much more...valuable when people know they can expect better than average work on your site, rather than anything and everything someone happens to submit.

Filler 3
There doesn't seem to be much filler info on here, not as much as I would expect. I do know this is a recent redesign tho, so maybe there is still information to add? There is a whole bunch more information that could be added in each of these categories, maybe summaries of the DVDs or more gallery photos of the characters, more info about the actors/characters etc.

White-space 3
There is too much space not being used here and the information is disjointed. It makes you not really know where to look for most of it and it's rather off-putting. A more cohesive structure is needed to present the information in a proper, organised way.

Other 4
There is a lot of potential not being realised in this site. Spelling and grammar mistakes are all over the place, as well as sloppy graphis work. If the graphics were more standardised, it would go a considerable way to improving the look of the site, and organisation is definitely needed here. A nicely started 'About' page is good, but the design is badly set out on that page with the photos (again, not standardly sized) hemming in the information and not adding to the look of it one bit. I would suggest adding a link to the photos rather than the photos themselves.

Splash/Index Page:
Ok..this splash page makes me want turn away from the site. People if you are going to use a splash page realize that this is your first impression of your site's entirety! I don't know what possessed this person to think that this was acceptable. The splash image is riddled with brushes the only thing holiday-ish about it is the scarce snowflakes in the background and Hama in her Santa outfit! The image is very bland with no color..this does not make me feel the holiday cheer. No background color! The coding is generated and the page isn't aligned properly at all. This either needs to be taken down all together or seriously fixed to look better. And when clicked the main page opens in a new window which I see as pointless as this isn't a pop-up site ( and how would we know as Topaz decided not to type in the resolution and types of coding her site used ). I would much rather have the main page take over this horrific splash page rather than keep it in its own window.

Main Page & Content:
Ok...The layout is okay...okay as in acceptable. The mouse has a PGSM world trail at the end of it which is annoying the crap out of me as it gets in the way of my reading so I have to move it all the way to the end of the browser to keep it from interrupting. Code is once again generated. Get a book people and learn, it's easy! The menu system is annoying as you have to click lose microscope hearts, why not make the text active as the menu looks inactive not everyone will take the time to think the hearts are the menu options. Ok Let's move on to see if the site's in uniform and has good content for the many sections that could be reduced by grouping similar sections together. Ok, the story section is in uniform but if the makers of Sailor Moon used this misspelled piece of drab to advertise the series let's just say it would turn any true Sailor Moon fan into a Anti one. Well uniformity is broken as the profiles page is not included with the layout and is in its own page and as unfortunate ( if you can call it that ) as it is there is no button back to the main page. The profile page is scarce in info and is somewhat mixed into a gallery as well. Ok gotta click the back button to return to the main page as there is no other option to get to another section or to the main page itself. The site moves back into uniform with the gallery, which has bad thumbnails that would have saved bandwidth if they were cropped into 60x60, or 100x100 squares. Moving along...The Extras section seems totally pointless to me..what is the freakin point of having cut outs, paper dolls, and folder..I'm sorry I wouldn't waste ink and paper to print them out and cut them out to play with. The only thing good about the extras is the coloring pages again square cropped thumbs would be better. The Wallpaper section is ridiculous! Instead of having a few wallpapers per character she decided to put her whole collection of wallpapers in for the user to browse page after page after page. On top I find that the wallpapers aren't all to great and could be better without over brushing them and working with adjusting the brightness and contrast and they tend to look bland only a select few are good and you have browse every page to locate them I would have quit after the second page as I hate over-extended pages. The fan art section is the only bright spot I again reiterate the thumbnails comment again and at this point with the extended pages I suggest that she go with iframes as I find the page turning tiresome. I am not going to bother myself with the fanfics. Links is inactive which I find odd as she does have sites to link. Otakon 2004 once again breaks the uniform with its own page. The page itself takes forever to load and I closed it as promptly as I realized how much it had to load. Now the section next is About Topaz and quite frankly do I want to know? The page restarts the uniform and has basic stats, there are pictures of Lilth who I think is her daughter or sister I'm not sure as it she doesn't say..The last sections are Guestbook and Mail Me, which are self-explanatory.

Overall:
The sites addy and name is PGSM World yet it's entirety is barely PGSM orientated. An Iframe would be better for the content as she has too much of it. Uniform was not to bad considering the few pages that she felt needed their own page ( Why? I don't know ). The only part of this site I liked was the fan art and that's sad because it was other people's work! So all in all this site is overall bad! I don't feel it has any sort of direction or theme. The content ( if you can call it that ) was mainly pictures with little or no info at all. This site needs some serious work and design. I suggest a fresh start as thats the only way to correct this travesty of a site.

Much like a jury, we the reviewers don't discuss a site before we review it. We each do our own and submit them, without any influence from the others. But for The_World_Of_PGSM, we had to break this rule, because two of us couldn't figure out how to work the menu links. I'm going to say that again, so you understand its importance. Two people, who browse websites for an avoctation, couldn't figure out how to work the menu links. Because if the menu says, for example, "Home," you can't click on the word home, you have to click on the tiny (9 pixels by 8!) heart graphic next to the word. If the other two people hadn't figured this out, there would probably be no review, because the site would seem to not exist.

What that illustrates is this: the layout of this site is not simply bad, it is problematic. Bad looking can be forgiven, but when certain pages don't include the menu or a back button, I'm more likely to say that that's the end of the visit for me. Also, on the home page, there's an annoying "PGSM World" piece of text that follows your cursor wherever it moves. Say it again, kids, just because you can use a piece of technology doesn't mean you should. I tried moving the cursor really fast to try to get it to make a swear word, but no such luck. Also, the whole site is a field of white, while the bulk of the text is in a color not dark enough to see. And if I may borrow a line from ksama487 over at our affiliate, Tiara Envy, Don't use the Comic Sans font. Ever.

The irony is, with the unpleasant layout and for all the length of the menu, PGSM World is basically a graphics site. There are nice extensive galleries of all the actresses, plus covers of the DVDs and manga, as well as wallpapers and some other scanned items. But you wouldn't know that unless I told you, since all those parts are below "Story" and "Cast Profiles," which makes you think you're at a cookie-cutter fansite.

And really, that's The_World's other big problem-it's not trying to look like something special, even though it might be. It looks like it's trying to conform to what the author thinks a site should be, instead of what she wants it to be. I'd say to re-design the site, junk the information, or shove it all on an "extras" page, and make the menu all about images. And make the links work.

Time for One Good Thing, and this one gets its own paragraph because to me, it's a Very Good Thing. Those cast galleries are filled with tons of fan service. Especially Sawai Miyuu's and Komatsu Ayaka's. Plenty of bikinis and underwear. And, well. . . I'm a guy. I fully realize that this may turn away as many people as it will attract, and maybe those pictures should be sectioned apart, but they're there, and I like them.

Ok splash page. Looks a bit crowded and plain but other then that it's ok. *clicks on image*

Well it's a really subtle site. Nothing hard on the eyes and I don't have to highlight the text. *Loves the bear used for updates. ^_^* The menu is on the left and a tagboard is on the right. Hmm...I guess it's ok. Not too disctracting. ^^

I noticed that there's text following my pointer...sorry but that's annoying to me. Also, I have to click on the heart to go to the desired location. Erm...that makes it a bit hard but it's still cute.

First problem is the profiles. It's not what you think tho-it's a good idea she has for the profiles it's just that the menu goes away. I had to click on the back button to get back to the menu. Same for the Otakon review.

I'm now reading her review and looking at the images. Hehehehe...looks like Otakon was a success and her little girl is soooooooooooo cute. *Ahem* Back to the review.

The rest of the menu is filled w/wallpapers, fanart, links, and the like.

Overall Opinion-This is a detailed site with tons of info and images of various things with only a few minor problems (which I mentioned above). A good site to come back to and visit. ^^
