Links & Affiliation Do all the links work? Are affiliations clearly stated? Are self-promotion banners, buttons, and links easily visible? |
EudialNight's Sailor Moon Page...ok we got a splash page w/ two broken images on it. This isn't the best way to start. The main pages shows two broken images on the bottom, on each side of the web rings. There is also a broken link right above the "Vote for Me" piece. Ok, now is the time to check if there any broken links... Broken Links on your site:

Video section, there are 130 different links to videos. I clicked about half of them and they all were broken links... Ok, Self-promotion...well, there are NO affliations and there IS a Link to Me page...the problem is that NOTHING is on it. So, that counts as having nothing. ....ok...this site is just horrible and should be thrown off the web world. FIX THOSE BROKEN LINKS/IMAGES!!! And keep on top of the sites that you link to! Geez, I'm gonna go take a shower and cleanse myself of this site. I feel dirty just reviewing this site. |

Substituting: Mimette Layout & Design Is the layout intuitive and easy to navigate? Is it compatible across all browsers and resolution? Is it aesthetically pleasing? |
PtilolLayout.. layout.. wait, what layout? According to Dictionary.com: 2. Layout- An arrangement or a plan, especially the schematic arrangement of parts or areas I don't see schematic arrangement of parts or areas anywhere on this site... just wallpapers. So there's not much to say for this "layout." A nice attempt from an Angelfire user, but not worth a thumbs up. As once again stated in 'Layouts For Dummies' by Einstein (not a real book), you can not put a wallpaper on your site and call it a "layout." Real layouts, defined above, are always better than slapping a background (animated or not) image on a site. On this particular site, the backgrounds are constantly changing, Ex. on some pages the background is white, on others it's black with animated rose petals, and on others it's white with falling hearts. Images on the index page are broken, and the "Silver Moon Sister Sites" banner leads to a broken link .. Not too shabby for a first impression. There's also a dog running back and forth between a wall and a smiley face on the main page. Not sure what that's supposed to mean, though. o.O This layout could greatly be improved if... the owner actually made one. Places like DayDreamGraphics.com and Aethereality.net have the snazziest free layouts, and even offer tutorials. As I've never used Angelfire before I'm not sure if they'll allow those kinds of layouts, but if not then the webmistress needs to find a new host. The only thing I really liked is the splash page. This could be a nuisance to some people but I personally liked the animated rose petals. They looked nice with my sexy Mamoru-chan. Other than that, the layout (if you could call it that. maybe "backgrounds" fits this sentence better), should get a big fat F. |

Credits & Site Information Are all sources visibly and accurately creditied? Is there plenty of information about the webmaster and the site? |
TelluThis site is just horrid when coming to giving credits. In fact, even on the links page, this site gives no hint as to why the links are there (some of the links are her sister's websites, most of the buttons and banners are broken images, and the links listed are...non-functional. As far as I can tell, the links are there because the person likes the site, not because she's giving any of them credit for anything on her site. The author gives her contact information (you can use ICQ or e-mail, whatever) just in case you want to ask her where her information came from. That's an open option, but the site should really include some comprehensive information about credits and other citings. That's about it. Not much else to see here. The author should really update with some creditting information. |

Written Content Is there lots of written information? Are all profiles, back story, and other textual content accurate? Does the site offer fanfiction or other miscellaneous written content? |
ViluyMain page - Not bad so far, although not much text. There is one mistake in that 'awhile' should be 'a while' but other than that, so far so good. Profiles - One thing that is common is that in the stats, just about every other word (if not every word) is capitalised. This, to me, shows how amateur the webmistress is and shows that she's likely to have been very young when she made this site. As the site dates from 2001 when it was trendy to do this, I can see why it's that way, I just don't have to like it. 'Alias's' should be 'aliases'. I am not completely sure about some of the attacks listed for each character, as I've never heard of, or seen some of them. Either they're made up (*sighs*) or manga attacks, and as I don't have all of the manga yet, I can't really say either way. It just looks made up to me, that's all I can say. If I am wrong, then I apologise but I do expect proof if so. Lita's star sign is spelled 'Sagittarius'. Many of the English dub stats are shown in the Japanese versions, which isn't entirely accurate, and for some of the characters, the Japanese version is exclusively shown which is a bit confusing as they do have English dub names. Dark Dome Close (for Setsuna Meioh) is not an attack, and therefore isn't 'illegal'. What is illegal is her power of stopping time. There is no such thing as Sailor Chibi Chibi Moon. As far as I am aware, there never was a Sailor Chibi Chibi either, as Chibi Chibi is the personification of Galaxia's star seed, and thus not a Sailor as such. For Sailor Saturn, as far as I know, none of her attacks are forbidden. Darien's English last name is Shields, not Chiba. That is the Japanese family name. His roses are also not steel-tipped (not 'steal'). Favourite quotes - Using the English dub names almost exclusively is fine. As far as I know, there is no English version of Chibi Chibi so that's ok. There are a few mistakes, such as 'your' for 'you're' (I'm trying to teach my son this hehehe), and forgetting to put a few names in front of the quotes. 'Jerk' is also capitalised when it shouldn't be. Is the 'moochie' in the first quote meant to be that or did the webmistress leave out an 's'? It's not very clear. Fanfiction - Not all of the fanfiction are to my taste, and some I have seen before. They mainly seem to be either taken from ff.net or ASMR. I have no idea if it's with permission or not, it is not very clear. Not all of the links work. Review summary - All in all, a very poorly presented site, which, given it's age, is pretty poor. It appears abandoned by the webmistress who seems to have moved on (perhaps) to other things. The spelling and grammar are fine, but presentation-wise...it's just plain boring and well...bad. |

Visual Content What kind of visual content is offered? Is it efficiently organized and intuitively accessible? Are all visual media offered legally? |
CyprineUnlike several of the other reviews this past few weeks, the navigation pull-down menu for this site claims to offer more visual content than just the standard image gallery. This bodes well for an interesting Cyprine-related review. Curiously, though, though the link seems to be descriptively enough titled, the "Information & Multimedia" section actually offers neither Information nor, what I was interested in, Multimedia. Instead, there is only a broken image that was probably an advertising banner and something about ICQ. I would highly recommend either actually putting some form of Information or Multimedia in this page, or removing it from the navigation menu, since it is basically a broken link and does nothing for the page. Edit: In retrospect, some forty-five minutes into my review, I realized that the Information & Multimedia, Fun Stuff, and Fan Stuff and Miscellaneous "links" in the nav pull-down menu are meant to be link headers. This is confusing. Next, in the navigation pull down menu is a block of links leading to image galleries. The first four pages seem to contain unsorted images as they are very undescriptively referred to in the pull-down menu as Image Gallery 1, Image Gallery 2, Image Gallery 3, and Image Gallery 4. I'm extremely concerned by what is found in the Image Galleries 1 through 4 -- the first two contain primarily animated gifs interspersed with static images, and Image Gallery 1 contains also some blank banners. The webmaster asks in Image Gallery 1 that "... if you would like to take any of these images please ask first so that I know you took them." However, from the fact that several of the animated gifs are familiar to me and that the banners of Image Gallery 1 belie a greater skill with graphic design than has been shown throughout the rest of the site, I'm 95% certain that these images do not in fact belong to Night and so they have no claim over their usage. The presentation of the Image Galleries uses a faux-thumbnail system in which the each page loads the full image as a thumbnail, using height and width properties of the img tag to artificially squish them into a thumbnail size. Not only does this stretch most images out of proportion, but it defeats the point of the thumbnail, which is intended to give you a quick-loading preview of the image. I realize that this site, hosted in Angelfire, probably has limited disk space to work with, but the galleries could be greatly improved if they invested some time and energy into creating real thumbnails for each image and using those in the gallery presentation rather than the full image -- anyone on a dialup would have a hard time viewing the site as it currently is. They could sacrifice some of the size of this gallery by focussing on specific themes to the gallery rather than just presenting them as Galleries 1 through 4. Also, it is very distracting to mix many different kinds of images into one gallery. The webmaster should either sort out the animated .gifs or sort out the static images and present them in a separate gallery. Right now, the animated .gifs are so spastic as to distract the viewer from the statics. Image Galleries 3 and 4, as well as the last half of Image Gallery 2 load a splendid display of little red 'x's. It seems all the images are broken, and they all are linked to an off-Angelfire account on TheSciFiVine.com. I assume that the webmaster had remotely stored their images in another account there although I'm not sure how since TheSciFiVine.com currently loads an e-textbook publishing site. Following the four generic Image Galleries are some specific galleries, which actually make me crave the faux-thumbnail set-up of the generics. Though the generics do nothing to speed up load-time with the resizing thing, at least I can view all the images quickly. The Serena & Darien Image Gallery on the other hand loads all the images at full-size, forcing me to scroll down quite a ways to view them all. This sort of presentation is decidedly messy and could again benefit from some form of actual thumbnailing. Both the Villains Image gallery and the Miscellaneous Image gallery (and, idly, I have to wonder what the difference is between what was intended to be in the Miscellaneous and what's in the generic Image Galleries 1 through 4) are again a brilliant display of little red 'x's, this time set up also without thumbnailing as the Serena and Darien site, so if it had loaded again there would be the unaesthetic full image effect mentioned above. Moreover, the little red 'x's seem to be because these images are again hosted remotely, this time supposedly on an account at AncientSites.com. AncientSites.com is actually a site on different historical civilizations -- I'm starting to wonder how this webmaster ever thought they could store images at these places in the first place. Nestled between Villain Images and Miscellaneous Images in the nav menu is a link to Movies. Originally, I think this will be a link to a gallery of images from the movies, but it turns out this is actually a page where one could theoretically download zipped movie clips. My first suggestion is that this link be brought outside of what is ostensibly a block of image gallery links in the nav menu. It's counterintuitive to include non-gallery multimedia in the image gallery section, and we get no visual cue until actually clicking on the link that we won't be loading another form of gallery. Secondly, the Movie section must be organized more effectively; the links are described only numerically from 1 through to 130, with no other information as to what I'll be downloading. It could be porn for all I know, and only by mousing-over the link to see the file-name in my Internet Explorer status bar (users of browsers like Safari would not get this luxury) can I even tell that some form of Sailor Moon-related .zip file will be downloaded (for example, I see one is named bonbonbabies.zip, another Rei_and_Serena_argue.zip). Giving me a description or even a screen capture of the clip would be much more useful. Thirdly, the movie section reminds the viewer that "...frames will be needed for each so be mindful." I'm not really sure how frames will be needed to view a zip file. Unfortunately, none of the clips can be downloaded because the site is again pointing to remotely hosted files, this time on xoom.com. Other links to presumably visual content material, such as sending a postcard feature are broken. The MultiCity hosted java chatroom also seems to be broken. The Fanart section loads a single piece of fanart (which doesn't seem to be Sailor Moon related) followed by another series of little red 'x's. These 'x's are trying to load content remotely hosted on another Geocities account. The main problem with this site is the presentation of the visual content which is frustrating and doesn't help the viewer easily peruse the gallery contents. Otherwise, this site is a lesson in why trying to string together content hosted on various free accounts is never a good way to go. If you want to make an image gallery, it is best to use a single free account that offers enough space to make a decent gallery -- using free accounts as archives for image content loaded from another site usually violates most free account sign-up agreements. Plus, on a purely practical note, as exemplified here, it's just damn hard to keep track of them all. |
