Layout & Design Is the layout intuitive and easy to navigate? Is it compatible across all browsers and resolution? Is it aesthetically pleasing? |
ViluyI've been a long-time follower of ASMR (apart from the last year or so when I've been occupied by other things) and the layout has pretty much been the same for the last couple of years. I remember the layout before this one and it was up for years before that. They don't get around to changing it often, which isn't necessarily such a bad thing, especially when 1. you're horribly busy like most of the staff are, and 2. when it's such a big, well known site. You like to have a little continuity in your life don't you? *smiles* Anyway, on to the layout itself. It's a nice pleasant baby blue background, with a nice manga picture of Mamoru and Usagi, with a flowery background. It's nice and centred in the window. This means it'll work nicely even when it's not at full size, and everyone should know by now that I hate enlarging sites just to be able to see/read them. The only thing that bothers me is the miniscule size of the frame used in the layout. It's relatively tiny. This means there's a lot of wasted space, given there aren't that many links on the main page. At least it's a fairly clean link list - no useless links here (although I'm not keen on the critique faq...). I think it would be nicer to have the links either above (preferably) or below the frame, rather than taking up almost as much space as the frame itself at the side of the layout. There is still wasted space underneath it that could be used instead and the frame opened up... The text is in an easy-to-read font, a relatively good size and the links are fairly self-explanatory. The only thing that jars with that is the pink colour of the links to the portal and Shingetsu. It just doesn't really go with the whole colour scheme. I know Usagi's favourite colour is pink but it just doesn't really go with the overall picture. There ideally should be more updates than this, on a site of this size. I know there are more staff that have time on their hands who could at least update once in a while. They're not ALL that busy, all the time, y'know? For a site of this size, I'd expect an update every week, if not sooner, really. I liked it the old way when the newly added stories were put on the main page. That way we could see who made the 'cut' so to speak. Maybe the updates could be more about that than just regular old boring stuff that nobody's naffed about anyway. (at least I'm not...) All in all, it's a generally oke front page. A bit boring and bland with nothing that really jumps out at you, but I guess the stories are the highlight of the site, rather than any flash pages it may have. |

Written Content Is there lots of written information? Are all profiles, back story, and other textual content accurate? Does the site offer fanfiction or other miscellaneous written content? |
TelluWell, I'm not really sure how to judge the written content of a site that is entirely devoted to other people's fanfiction, but I'll see what I can do. I don't really care to read the thousands of fics on this site, and don't see a point in doing so, as they weren't created by the owners of the site. The grammar and writing style of the owners is absolutely wonderful. My heart absolutely leaps for joy at the thought of a Sailor Moon site with good grammar, and no 'netspeak,' which I despise. The critique FAQ is a great touch, and the submission guidelines are detailed enough so that there's no excuse for submitting something wrong. The only thing I don't like about the written content of this site is the admin bios on the 'about us' page. So let's take a peak at a few quotations from that page, so that I may better illustrate my point:
How does she do it? you may ask. How does she maintain this beautiful site, go to school, have a boyfriend, wash all three or four feet of her beautiful hair every night, and remain sane? Tall, sexy, and the proud owner of a nice pair of eyelashes, George is the brain behind all of the technical aspects of ASMR that most of us do not understand. |

Visual Content What kind of visual content is offered? Is it efficiently organized and intuitively accessible? Are all visual media offered legally? |
CyprineThis site includes an art gallery that contains primarily fanart. It's good that it's thumbnailed, it's good that the layout is unobtrusive and the blow-ups show up in a new window. The only bad news is that the thumbnails are crops rather than resizes. The other major down-side is that many of the images included in this gallery have almost nothing to do with Sailor Moon. So why am I looking at it? I have no idea. Other than that, this site offers nothing by the way of Multimedia. Lil' Cyprine is bored, and frankly, I have an exam tomorrow. |

Overall How does the site flow, overall? What are the wholistic impressions the viewer gets from the site? |
PtilolNice image of Usagi and Mamoru for the focal point of the main layout. The soft brushwork is also very pretty and not overpowering. It works well together and makes me want to look around. The navigation on the left side is easy to use as well. The first section is the "Archives". There's the library of all the submitted fan-fic that was accepted. It's easy to find what you are intersted in because the stories are categorized according to series. The site specializes in Sailor Moon, but says that other themes are welcome too. There is also a page of "new stories". They are the most recent additions. Each also categorized by series. The Art Gallery under "Archives" contains the fan-art and other drawings by some members. They show up as small thumbnails and open in a new window when clicked. Most of the art looks really nice. It appears that the artists spent a good amount of time on their work. In "Guidelines" are a FAQ section on critiquing and a page on how to submit a story. The submission rules are pretty extensive but easy to follow. The layout changes for this area to a very simple one featuring Elda (Chii) from Chobits in the upper left corner in a faery-like dress on a pale yellow background. The last area includes tidbits and statistics about the site and its server and also a donations page. When running something this big, every little bit helps it seems. Overall, it looks like a wonderful place to read and share fan-fiction with the world. All the links work, as do the images. The layouts change for each page, but none of them are tacky or blinding. Nice job webmaster/mistress person. |
