Layout & Design

Is the layout intuitive and easy to navigate? Is it compatible across all browsers and resolution? Is it aesthetically pleasing?

Manga Angels is another classic BSSM site that's been around since the beginning. And, ooooh, this is a new layout since last time I visited. It's good that the splash page easily let's me know that there's been that layout change since last I visited.

The splash page is uncluttered, featuring only a counter (Bravenet, which is kind of jarring given the easy, breezy green-i-ness of the splash image, but who can complain?) and a clique membership button. Bonuses for having the splash image not only indicate that it is a splash image (i.e., it has some "click to Enter" text) but also gives us a nice list of brwoser requirements. I'm worried that IE 6+ is recommended only because sites should be compatible in more than just MIE, but it's recommended not required, so we'll see how it goes.

Clicking on the splash page...

... and I'm actually a little disappointed. First of all, pop-unders and pop-up ads have always irritated me, so while I understand that not everyone can afford advertisement-free hosts, that's always going to take a few points off your site.

But more importantly -- while I like the colours of the site, I like the random little "v" arrows that are effectively used to accentuate the images, I love the editing that was done around the image, I actually don't like that main image. It's a doujinshi Ami (I think), but it's so washed out (either from the original image or from the filtering-all-to-hell effect that was used) that I can't actually tell if it is, let alone what she looks like and much of anything about her other than she has very bright violet eyes. I'm coming off a hangover here, so while the pastel, dreaminess is much appreciated, it's not a particularly interesting layout image to use since I can't tell what the fuck is going on in it. I feel like I'm on E, and doujinshi Ami is my fantasmagoric hallucination.

Main site navigation is tucked neatly under the slanted fantasmagoria Ami. Again, easy coding that will be compatible with most browsers, so that's a plus. I'm personally not the biggest fan of vague section names, as this site has, but they've been a staple of this site for so long, I don't think it's too much of an issue.

Otherwise, the green/pink colour scheme is used well. I'm not certain that the footer information is really all that necessary -- do we really need the same contact, g/book and affiliate both in the image map and in the rather space-consuming footer? Nonetheless, it's very good that the footer does include links both back (via Javascript) and home.

Written Content

Is there lots of written information? Are all profiles, back story, and other textual content accurate? Does the site offer fanfiction or other miscellaneous written content?

The site looks really nice with a lot of interesting content. The only concern is that it's not very intuitive to navigate, needing a site map to tell people how to get around the site. There are quite a few spelling errors as well. I'd advise the webmistress to please use a spell-checker if possible. *slays the pop-under adverts*

The character portion of the site is a bit lacking, showing only the dub and sub names. It might save on a lot of work to have more of the information that is currently on different pages on the same page (as the character names) or on less pages than it is currently. It will cut down on work as well as errors that may creep in, such as the one in the movie summary for The Promise of a Rose where it says '...known as Kisenian, that uses its hostess's negative energies against them.' which is a bit of a grammatical/factual error. The Kisenian blossom requires the use of a host body to manipulate and use the energies of the host, as well as the victims of said host to grow and populate her species. I think this is what the webmistress meant in a strange sort of way. I do rather like the idea of Usagi as heroin though *winks* in the second season summary hehehehe.

A significant portion of the fun parts of the site could be consolidated into a few less pages, in my opinion. The current system just makes so much more work that could be better spent elsewhere. It's a very good site, it just needs a little more tweaking with the spelling, facts and other bits and pieces. (and please, please, please, get your own domain or one that's not hosted with pop-up/under adverts - it's damned annoying)

Visual Content

What kind of visual content is offered? Is it efficiently organized and intuitively accessible? Are all visual media offered legally?

Mimette

Wow! I thought that this was an SM site, but apparently it is a site that wants to give me an American Express Business card! Just what I always needed! *ahem* Lemme close this blasted popup window and thank my popup blocker for the others that it says it blocked -_-;

Alright, that sucked. When I entered the page, another popup that wasn't blocked... and more annoying was that the popup was an audible popup... it started talking to me! WHEN THE FUCK ARE PEOPLE GOING TO REALIZE THAT POPUPS DON'T WORK! THEY ARE ANNOYING AS ALL HELL AND THEY DON'T SELL PEOPLE ANYTHING BUT RATHER ANNOY EVERYDAY INTERNET USERS!!!!!

Alright, now that I have gotten that out, I shall move onto my section and be done with it.

Alright after toying with the links for a bit, I finally found what I am assuming is the media section of this site, but I had to click on "spirit" to get there... no alt tags either

I gotta admit that the meat of the "spirit" section is the quizzes and on some of those I have to wonder if some of the answers are correct...

Digging further into this site, there is substantial media on this site. There are a lot of fun "activities" that you can take part of and could be a lot of fun for somebody that wants to play around with some sailor moon based computer stuffs.

This site has some decent media, but I have to wonder if the navigation is worth it. There is a LOT to this site, but between the popups and the navigation, I would rather go to another site.
