NeptuneAlthough the site is in French, I can navigate it pretty easily. So let's start with the layout. Layout-Made by Lycentia (and yes, the author does credit) it's pretty nice to look at. I know the author has said that she is learning HTML and will be making a new layout when the time is right-can't wait to see what you come up with! Content-Fans that only speak French will love this site as they will be able to know/understand what's going on in the world of Sailor Moon. There's a gallery, multimedia and info on the series (and the manga). Original content is also good to see (authors own works are in the galleries)-not many sites have original content nowadays. Text/Background-Since this is a premade layout, everything fits and works just fine. Good luck to the author when she finally completes her own layout-trust me I'm trying to but it's harder then it looks when you don't do graphics everyday. ^^; |

SaturnWell this is our first site that we have reviewed in a different language. The only reason we are doing as such though is because this site is in French and two of us on the team speak French. This site has a pretty layout, but I have seen this before. Meaning it is a freebie layout. That's fine. There is nothing against using freebie layouts. In fact, this layout is by Lycentia, who has all sorts of beautiful layouts available. I understand that not everybody can do their own coding, and even though I recommend learning, I would always recommend a freebie layout over a Pagebuilder site. That being said, I can't really say much about this layout as it wasn't done by the author, so I must assess content. The last update for this site was in December, so this is rather up to date. I am glad to see that, Also, the News portion of the page is laid out rather well and easily read. Unfortunately the Info section doesn't have much. The Anime section doesn't have anything as it isn't finished. The Manga section only has the cover images for the reprint edition. I am in the Live Action portion now and there are some short summaries for the first 9 Episodes and an image for each, but nothing spectacular. Thus far, the meat of the site has been the Graphics section. Some avatars, some wallpapers, and some Photoshop brushes, which I have no downloaded for myself. Well, I was wrong. There is a bit of a good Music section on this site. It isn't the most thorough, but it is pretty good for a site on a free host. There are also video clips to be had on this site. As with the music, it isn't a complete set, but it is nicely setup and easily navigated which adds to the appeal of it. There really isn't anything else to this site. Credit is given where it is due. There needs to be some work on it as there is a lot missing, but I am sure that it will be brought up to date and filled in soon as this author obviously has a grasp on what they want on their site and a great way of putting it together. Nice Job. |

UranusThis site is going to be my biggest challenge to date. Kibu no Tenshi, A French-language site. Can two semesters of badly taught French, Sailor Pluto's helpful translation, and a series of cognates and Latin roots combine to make this worth reading? The site sits in a frame in the middle of the window, and when this is done properly, it's very indicative of a kind of humility, declaring that it is not an encyclopedia, but a series of index cards, designed not to be an exhaustive source of information, but a summary. The undersized text adds to that effect, though you do have to sit a little close to the screen. The colors are well contrasted, so it doesn't actually hurt your eyes. The information page purports to cover the three media of Sailor Moon, and while incomplete, it appears to be organized and succinct enough to pass muster. That is, were it an English site, it would be about average. I don't know if there are as many French sites that cover the basics, but for Francophones who need this sort of information, it would be a good place to get it. The manga section only has cover images, and not large ones at that. A plot summary or some looks at the differences between the versions might be a good addition. The image gallery is next, which is not an archive but a section for the author's own works. There are avatars, wallpapers, and Photoshop brushes. The best section to my taste is the avatars. They show a very good selection of pictures and good framing. The wallpapers may be overly simplistic, and the ones that deal with the senshi in civilian outfits or the actresses themselves seem to come out better than the ones of the senshi in fuku. Disappointingly, the text on all the images is in English, and were I an actual French visitor, I'd want to see some in my native language. The multimedia section is next, and that term has a rather woolly definition. In this case it's music and video clips. The music section comprises most of the major vocal PGSM songs, but they're encoded at 64 kbps to save space. I would think it would be better to have half the songs at 128, or even two-thirds of the songs at 96. At least it's not "they're encoded at a low bit rate so you'll go out and buy the CDs, freeloader!" That bothers me. The video section has mostly henshins, with the novel idea of comparing the anime versions with the PGSM ones. There are a few sundry clips as well, such as the PGSM introduction speeches. There's the typical site stuff, which is often boring but necessary. The answer to FAQ #4 is worth getting translated because it's a good lesson on not letting your reach extend past your grasp. The site finishes with a sadly under-filled forum, which is too bad because the phpbb work done is excellent, with little sprites and a nice top bar. This kind of effort when making a forum is important, so people remember to go there. There is much about this site that the language barrier prevents me from discussing. I can't tell if the author is being condescending or nice, or whether the information is accurate. But from viewing it, I'd say that we have a reliable and capable author whose site, if it keeps growing, should be at the head of the French fanbase. |
