Layout & Design Is the layout intuitive and easy to navigate? Is it compatible across all browsers and resolution? Is it aesthetically pleasing? |
CyprineOh, lovely. Tiled backgrounds. Well, the good news is that this layout is based on a simply black text on white background motif, meaning that no matter what happens, the site is legible. I've never been a huge fan of tiled backgrounds, but this one, manga images of the various characters looking extremely, fuckin', happy, isn't so annoying. It does match the site's chosen banner image, a group image of the girls in their civvies. Although the banner image is small, it's at least not annoying. The Annoying Page Design monster does rear his ugly head though when it comes to page organization. Immediately following the banner are three news pieces (involving old news about the DVD box sets) and finally we get to the links to the site's subsections.... at least four full page scrolls down. This is a huuuuge web design no-no: when I first visit your site, before I waste the time expending energy to scroll down, I should immediately get a sense of why I should be at yout page. Forcing me to scroll all the way to the bottom of the page just to see the site's sections will only encourage all those not forced to review this site to just hit the back button and get the hell outta there. Clicking on some of the subsections, the site gets positive karma for maintaining the site design (such as it is... tiled background with black text on white background) throughout the subsections. Negative karma is earned, however, for having banners in the subsection footers that not only link S.O.S., but link a broken mirror of S.O.S.! If that isn't the S.O.S. campaign in a nutshell, I don't know what is. The little SD angel gifs of the girls that has been overused to death once agrain grace these pages, as they are used as header images for each of the subsections. Not much else, layout-wise, to report on this site. Blah, blah, boring. I am so unimpressed. |

Written Content Is there lots of written information? Are all profiles, back story, and other textual content accurate? Does the site offer fanfiction or other miscellaneous written content? |
PtilolFirst off, I can see this person seems to have some issues with the use of common grammer. Lets begin with exhibit A, shall we. Welcome to my site. This web page is dedicated to the Sailor Moon series. This site is over seven years old now & must be one of the oldest Sailor Moon site online. Right now, I'm completely redo the entire site with a brand new, more appealing design, as you see it now. The only problem nearly everything on the site need to be closed & the pages redone one by one. Last I checked, there were quite a few sites dedicated to Sailor Moon all over the web. Also, the correct phrase is "redoing the entire site...". The last line sorta makes sense if you read it a few times. To fix that "with" should be added after "problem" and "need" should be "needs". Enough nitpicking of that bit. On to Exhibit B. I'm not going to include the whole section this time. Let's just say there are some issues with the proper use of "effect" and "affect". Common mistake though, so I won't gripe too much about it. Reading through the rest of the content, I see the same problems. Errors in plural usage, spellings of words to mean one thing or another, and awkward sentences. Other than that, the wording of the site is decently done. Easy to read and understand. I give you a "C+". |

Visual Content What kind of visual content is offered? Is it efficiently organized and intuitively accessible? Are all visual media offered legally? |
Tellu
This site has been online for... HOW long? And this is all the media she can get on here? I just have to say that that's pretty sad.

Overall How does the site flow, overall? What are the wholistic impressions the viewer gets from the site? |
ViluyThis site has been around for a while, but doesn't seem to have much to show for it. Everything is generated, and seems to focus more on selling the merchandise, rather than information on Sailor Moon. I like the side images, and the cute little horizontal rules that she has separating the different content, but the rest of it...meh. There's a tribute to a girl she knew, quite what that has to do with Sailor Moon, I don't know, but there you go. There are a few English dub lyrics, as well as some midi files, which are linked to another site (which also appears to be hers) on Geocities. The midi files also include files from both the English and the Japanese versions of the show. Given the fact that the site hasn't been updated for a while, I'm rather impressed that the midi files still work. The stats on the senshi are all pretty much the same usual things you'll find on any other site of this type. They include the attacks, a little history, as well as the dollbox stats and the obligatory picture of each senshi. There are only the main 4 senshi as well as Sailor Moon listed currently. The rest of the site seems to be given over to all the many (too many!) webrings the webmistress owns or runs, as well as all the merchandise you can get, which is pretty boring to me. The site is all right, just nothing much to look at. The main thing that appears to be lacking is any credits. I would like to know where she got her graphics from, where she got the midi files etc., but there's nothing to say either way. That's a HUGE issue here at the Pocky Box, and one that we take very seriously. I would advise a total site overhaul, with a new and interesting layout, more content other than merchandise, and maybe a little bit about the webmistress, where she can put her tribute to her friend as well. As it stands, the site is pretty poor overall, not really contributing to the series at all. |
